 disconect battery. leave

Wed, 2012-03-07 11:48

disconect battery. leave minimal fuel in the tank so it doesnt go off. maybe turn over once a month to keep the motor lubricated. make sure all the bungs are out and boat is tilted up enough so if any water gets in it will drain away

Actually just the opposite

Actually just the opposite with the fuel.  I would top it to the top to prevent condensation and water in fuel problems later.

Put some fuel stabilzer in the tank if its an inbuilt tank. Stops the fuel going off apparently.

spray in inox before leaving do not leave fuel tank empty as the condensation will build up and you will have problems later! use some stabilizer for the fuel! if possible get the missus or a mate to run your motor as often as possible including turning the steering to keep the steering cable moving, get your mechanic to service it a week before you return so it is ready to go when you get back

 Take the cowl off, clean

Wed, 2012-03-07 14:23

Take the cowl off, clean down carefully with fresh water and rag then spray lanotec around liberally. I wouldnt bother starting once a month but trickle charge the batteries instead. Plan on changing the impellor when you get back. Without regular use it will perish.

Motor protection.

The fuel stabilzer idea is worth doing for sure. In hot humid conditions condensation is a real problem, i guess a wet winter could do the same. I have used metholated spirits for years with no problems at all, i do have a water trap but never have had to drain water out of the glass bottomed trap. Living in Kununurra the wet season proper doesn't see much boating, so periods of up to 3 months have gone by in the past where the Yamaha 115 4 stroke sits idle. Some motors can get corrosion in the bore hence starting would be beneficial. Batteries should be fine if isolator switch is off.

PS I have used 200ml per 100 litres for 8 or 9 years as a given every couple of tanks. Ask any old fuel truck driver, thats how i found out.
