E-Tec 115 with 1.85:1 Gearbox

I have a mate running a E-Tec 115 with 1.85:1 Gearbox on a 21ft Ally. WOT should be around 5600, but with the smallest prop available, he is only getting 5200 and around 27-30kn.
Anyone else here had a similar experience?
He is getting differant and conflicting answers from all the local knowledgeable people ;-)

Maybe a little but I had a 115 johnson two stroke on my 20' glass boat
and would get 30knts plus in the right conditions

1st step before anything else
1st step before anything else is to make sure the outboard is running right, no blocked filters, partially seized, low compression, dodgy fuel etc.
Totally pointless changing props if its just a symptom.
You are making it a little hard though by giving no info, i.e is it a brand new setup, has it always been like this (if so it may be fked from lugging?) or has it recently happened?
Tthe "local knowledgable people", are they people with flash boats at the boat ramp, drinking buddies, the dealer who installed it new?
21 foot is getting up there for a 115 but if its a new setup and a dealer sold it to your mate then HE is the one who should be sorting it out.
And not wanting to sound condescending at all but it is not only prop size but pitch which allow an engine to rev higher.
Theres a few things to start with, come back with a few more specifics and we may be able to narrow it down.
And if all else is ok there MUST be a prop available from the US then, these outboards go onto ALL sorts of boats there right up to houseboats (and even the space shuttle had a couple if you believe the ETEC DVD
)
But numero uno, make sure the outboard is running right FIRST.
