I think it's a bit early to tell, certainly no reports from the pros up north yet. Maybe some divers over the next week or so will have some reports of moulting.
Catches in pots very minimal right now. My call very early season this season. Scientists say this season worse than last. I didn't think that could happen.
I tried a little bit in September for reds, but by the end of the month a lot were already tar spot. Not sure if that is early, but my records from last year inidcated I was mainly getting tar spots October-November.
That have moulted and are ready to migrate to deeper water, the migration referred to as walking or the white run....when the ramps are chocker with out of control boaties frothin for a feed of crays.
Water temperature seems average and moon phases calendar date is a couple of weeks shifted compared to last year. The puerulus recruitment index for Alkimos and Warnbro collectors in 2020, which might predict the size of the Perth area run this year, is very slightly down on the 2019, but there is not much difference across 2018-2020, so that suggests a bit of an average year similar to the last couple. I'll try dropping at the end of this month, in case there is some movement during the darks following New Moon of 1 December. Not sure if moon phase is a strong factor for whites though. I'll then just pot for a month until Christmas, as I've found mid-December good for reds anyway.
If only the bloody wind would settle down :/ put mine in on sat, but haven't had a window to check them yet. Looking like won't be anytime soon. As luck would have it good wind always in work days lol!
Haven't been doing much fishing this year after breaking my wrist on our first day of camping up at Ningaloo last year. Been crazy busy at work too. We are back up there this Boxing Day for redemption.
Shot out after work this arvo with the stepson had 21 in 2 pots left my best positioned pot for tomorrow morning when we have 3 licences. Also hoping to see what's in the pot out abit deeper.
First pull after 6 day soak, two pots in 12m off Stragglers, for zero. Still some bait, but nothing at all in the pots. The pro floats in the area were being picked up today while I was there, so if still nothing next pull I'll move out to FFB. Fingers crossed, but FFB worked well last year in December for me.
