Thinking of giving one of these a go. Cheaper than a winch! i know a few on here use them. One question when you drive forward where do you have the rope tied off? To a bow bollard with the rope in the bowsprit? If so is the bowsprit suppose to take the wieght?

On Alfred's boat we usually tie it off on a cleat on the gunwhale, near the transom.

So you motor forward a little till you get enough slack then tie off to a stern cleat then away you go?

Pretty much, I think they
Pretty much, I think they work best if you put the float in right over the anchor so they get pulled up, not along.

i had one of these before the winch!!
i just left mine tied to the bollard! i didnt have a bow sprit at that stage but as long as your bollard is mounted well you wont have a problem! just be carefull using these around reefs as if the anchor doesnt pull you may be in a little strife!

I`ve used one for the last 10
I`ve used one for the last 10 years or so. Wouldnt tie it off to the stern if there is any swell, a mate nearly flooded his 22 footer one day doing that when the anchor was stuck . It self drained but there was a lot of water in the boat for a while. . Better off on the bow so if it does get stuck the boat turns and you can have another go . .

Yeah
Yeah i was thinking that too. Probably get the hang of it and see what works best. I mainly dive so i will make sure the anchor will come up no probs before. Had a look at you tube at some of the yanks doing it but they are only pulling up pissy little reef picks my anchor would be 6-8 kilos.

Float
Make sure that your float can support the anchor and chain together and that the chain weighs more than the anchor. That way once you have pulled the anchor it stays supported by the float and the chain hangs down making it easier for you to pull in to the boat.
