Boat trailer

Looking to get a new trailer for my boat, pref a tandem. Can anyone recommend a company and provide aa number. Need to have it ready by the end of the month, is that reasonable? Expecting around 5ish in cost but a lot less head aches in the long run.

Cheers,
Adam

Mackey trailers are meant to be pretty good quality aren't they? I've got a trailcraft one and it's reasonable wouldn't buy another one if I replaced it though

Think Feral just got one made

Mon, 2011-03-07 22:51

Think Feral just got one made up by Papas. Tandam Galv I-beam. Look pretty damn good. But think it cost about double what you are looking at paying.

I know i priced up Tandem ones with keel and side rollers two years ago from Trailit and Roadmaster for my 5.8m Ally and they were around the 6k-8k mark. Think i am more likely to save a bit more and get and I-beam one though. Much easier to maintain. If i can save even more i'll get it made out of Ally instead of Galv. Again for ease of maintenance(though pricey for ally trailers)

http://www.duralitetrailers.com.au/trailers.shtml is what we`ve got. Come have a look at ours if you want Adam. Easiest boat /trailer setup I`ve ever seen or used by a long way .Was cheaper than a mackay as well . .

Is your new rig still in Perth or up here ?

Buz,The boat is a Peter

Tue, 2011-03-08 17:29

Buz,The boat is a Peter Milner Performance 25 , Theyve closed down and  Paul at Northshore Boats has the moulds now .

Ours was a trailer they had in stock,  its a 22/24 different model numbers now. Couple of things I had dramas with. The safety chains where pissy light cheap shit and the tyres werent rated heavy enough. To their credit they reimbursed me for the new michelins I had put on straight away. The lights crapped out in 6 months or so and had to be replaced too. Apart from that its been a really good trailer. . .  It was about 13 grand at the time and a mackay multi roller steel trailer was about 18K and was at least 500 kilos heavier.

The boat with no fuel on the trailer was 2740kg on the weighbridge before I towed it to exxy. Add 350 litres of fuel, 100 litres fresh water, ice, fishing and diving gear and if we had a steel trailer wouldnt be able to legally tow it with the cruiser . .

Cheers Ben

Thanks for the info Ben. Will

Thanks for the info Ben. Will definitly look at a Duralite, but if i do decide on them i would make sure the tyres, chains, and lights are exactly what i want.

Currently my boat is on a Roadmaster single axle Galv trailer. With 100L of fuel, total weight of boat and trailer is 1320kg. So fair bit lighter than yours. I hope that means it might be a bit cheaper for a trailer???? But thinking of getting Tandem axle next time. Makes it more of a bit*h to manuvour by hand, but i like the idea of extra wheels if one blows out on the hwy.

Know what you mean when talking weights and tow capacities. The four stroke we put on was a bit heavier than the previous 2 stroke and tipped the total weight over the 1200kg capacity of the old towbar so i had to get a new towbar for my Hilux to one rated to 1500kg(max the Lux is rated to for braked trailer anyway). So i can now legally have ~180kg of whatever else in the boat when towing.

Amazing though whe you see some people around perth towing boats around with cars that you know are definitly not rated to be towing them. Well they will find out the hard way if they are in an accident and try to claim insurance. RAC will void insurance on your Car and Boat in a road accident if you have exceeded the towbar or cars towing capacity.

Road master

There is a tandem road master trailer that would be suitable for sale at the RAC joint here in town for around $3.500.

Will take a drive over and check it out if you want Ads.

Posiflex

Tue, 2011-03-08 18:41

Are they the rubber mounted ones that don't continue all the way through under the trailer, used to be called posi torque ??

If so I wouldn't touch them with someone else's private part.

Had some fitted to a boat trailer, 4 x 1 tonne axles to carry a tonne and a half boat. 3 of the four fell to bits on the road into Gnaraloo, got four more sent up that were rated for two tonne per wheel/ axle and buggered two of them on the way out, 2 more sent up to get us back to Two Rocks.

Removed them and took all the buggered ones back to the dealer and dumped them on his counter. Got money refunded plus 2 new steel leaf springs, u bolts and straight axles for nothing. One of the biggest mistakes I have ever made on a trailer by far.
