Just been doing some research. Pretty sure its a Red Spotted Emperor, also known as a Pink Eared Emperor, scientific name Lethrinus lentjan.
It has a red spot on the rear edge of the gill cover. The top fin of this particular fish is a bit different than others on the web, however it had a big scar where it had been attacked some time in the past. The second fish we caught the same as this had a single top row of fins.
gees Claire, what long arms you have.jealous of those conditions. good to see Wade isnt the only one out fishing all the time. at least i know what a red spot emperor looks like
Its a purple headed emperor sometimes called a pink eared emperor. Distinguised by spots on scales , red margin on gill cover and red spot at base of pectoral fin. Head of freshly caught specimen turns to purple colour. 3 star eating.
Shit Wade, thats one of them 'Voodoo' fish. Once you have one of them on board your boat, it is jinxed. Ya may as well give up fishin mate, sell the boat, come back to suburbia & sit in front of the heater like most of us....... was i convincing ????? Rob
