This is the nearest I can find to what you re chasing - it'll take sometime for the right boat to come up though.

Transporting to WA - done that!

Hi Wade - mate the cheapest way to get a boat over here is to go and get it yourself. In 2006 I went through every possible scenario - Rail, Road train on a trailer, Road train towing the boat on its trailer, Fly over and hire a vehicle to tow it back ( no towbars on hire vehicles!) and finally drive over hook it up and drive it back. I drove from Perth to Melbourne in 3 days by myself - 1100, 1200 and 1000 ks approx - slept in my Paj at Caiguna and then stayed at a motel in Port Augusta for a good shower and real bed to sleep in then next day drove thru to Melb. Had 3 days rest at my brothers and then towed the boat via the Mildura Hwy to Pt Augusta and then back over the Nullabor.

Fuel cost was $1.40 a litre in Perth at the time and $1.75 a litre on the Nullabor - hence I took 3 20l jerry cans although a couple of the Servo's had fuel prices at $1.40 per litre which helped to keep the cost down - fuel up where it was cheaper over that type of distance saved quite a few $. All up it cost me $1500 - including the night stay at the motel. Rail was $5k+, and Road was $3750 towed behind the vehicle and $4500+ on the back of a trailer hooked up to the road train.

That was to Melbourne and back - plus I got to see some great sights and places along the way, catch up with my brother and then organise the boat myself so that it was ready to do the trip back. Obviously if your travelling further expect great costs in all methods of transport - the longer they have to cart it the more you pay.

Hope thats useful info mate - I have a giggle when people ask me where I've come from to have a look at a boat or other gear & they don't believe you've driven a couple of hours to check it out.

just sick of climbing through anchor hatches
Isn't that what deckies are for? ;)
Or better yet, anchor winches.

Luke- No way is that 6.1 m

Wed, 2013-01-02 22:46

thats a big lump of boat right there- way bigger than 6.1m - it looks very much like the equivalent size of a Voyager Marquis and I think they're about 23ft or more ( 7ish metres)

Why so big?

Sun, 2012-12-30 23:32

Beyond a certain size you'll almost always need a crew, not that thats a bad thing but what if you want to go by yourself? My boats 5.6m fibreglass  - I had a 6m Quinnie Oceansport and found that a little more difficult to manage on my own but doable. I'd be a little concerned with the Barron re the inboard motor - the owner didn't really talk it up but if he can produce receipts on work/ services done it may be fine. - I just know they cost a motza when you need repairs on them.

What about this

http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/mullaloo/motorboats-powerboats/baron-6-mtr-factory-outrider-fiberglass-/1009641178

or bigger

Bigger boats will demand more $ spent when things go awry - which with an older craft can be fairly regularly.

Or slightly smaller - Fraser Formula 626.

Donk would be thirsty though.

the size is getting up there.

the size is getting up there. but very rarely if ever do i go out by myself. my old 5.4 had a lot of cabin room but no fishing room, was narrow and just not practical. seen alot of boats for sale with inboards but not sure everyone has mixed opinions on them. just looking for something with some decent fishing room.

So realistically your looking more for a runabout style

Wed, 2013-01-02 22:52

Runabouts have a heap more clear deck space - that's why I 've got the boat I have. Plenty of deck space, can still launch retrieve yourself, dual axle trailer - Honda 90 to push it along reasonably well with reasonable fuel economy and relatively quiet too.

Did you have a look at these

http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/albany-6330/motorboats-powerboats/baron-sportsman/1010242785

and

Not quite so big but good performers with greater deck space for their size - particularly the Calais/ Pacemaker.
