Go Yank import like the Striper 26's or 23's, Trophys, Keywest or if your budget stretches Bostons or Gradies. They will have the fuel that you want to get to the monties and will come with all the creature comforts to keep the family happy or plenty of room for overnighters with a mate without having to get uncomfortable.

Speak to Justin at Portsea Marine, I don't say it just because they are site sponsors, but I have heard lots of talk about their service getting boats in without a hassle, well worth having a chat to him.

There are also plenty of good imports already in country worth looking at. Heaps on the East coast in particular if you dont mind a bit of travel. Plenty of guys have brought big boats back, could be a good excuse for a road trip to.

Don't know

Don't know much about the build quality of the US boats Paul, but with the high aussie dollar and no capital gains tax payable on boats, I wouldn't be surprised if people are bringing in one, selling it, then bringing another one/two etc.

Agree with Paul, be careful

Wed, 2013-01-09 20:56

Agree with Paul, be careful with Yank boats, some of the layouts are very poor for our type of fishing. However, dont totally overlook them, as there is the odd gem and the Yanks do a lot of things MUCH better than we do here.

With basically no limits except being under 3.5t tow weight and capable of +35 knots, my choice was a Boston Whaler Conquest 235 for a fishing machine capable of the odd overnighter at Rotto with the odd luxury for the family, and I looked at almost everything. But what makes it right for me may not make it right for you. Do lots of looking around.
