Replacement Battery

Hi guys I need to replace my battery on 1999 130hp Johnson ocean pro 2 stroke v4 outboard, I currently only run a single battery system for everything, motor, lights, electronics etc

Ive got nothing left on the current old battery to identify size, type brand etc, it is a sealed unit though.

Can anyone give me any ideas of what size I might require, which brand/s get a good wrap, and where is the best place/value to go buy one or is it a case of go to your local marine dealer.

If I knew what size I require I could do a ring around for quotes, but none of the motor manuals online I have found give me a spec. for this motor.

Cheers.

Hard to go past the Century

Hard to go past the Century Marine Pro 720, I've had a couple of these over the years.  Currently using them in my 4WD as a starting battery and also for my dual battery setup for my fridge etc, have used in the past for boats as well.  Will be well sufficient for your outboard.  They are a "Dual Purpose" type battery with 100amp hour deep cycle capacity and 720CCA.  2yr warranty and at $200, you can't go wrong.  I picked my last one up at Battery World and I think BCF do a reasonable price on them too.

The Century batteries are

The Century batteries are good for sure great value for money had one in my old boat. A older motor of that size will need a bit more CCA ( Or MCA) than a newer motor.

I believe get the biggest battery you can fit, especially with only 1 battery. I am currently running 2 x optima D31M's which have a good CCA and a good ah rating. They are about $300 each but. ( look up goodchild industries in jandakot for a decent price )

RAC battery

Fri, 2012-12-21 23:26

When I bought my Trailblazer 2 years ago, I specified a 1000CCA battery.....it came from RAC Batteries. I knew it was more than enough to start the 125 Optimax but with only one battery and the tendency to add more 'electronic things' to our boats, I felt it was the way to go. To date, I've never had any problems with this battery, even when the boat sits for a couple of months, the outboard fires into life at the first turn of the key.

I'm considering a dual battery setup and need to weigh up the pros and cons of sticking with 2 1000CCA batteries versus installing slightly smaller batteries.

If you're an RAC member (or know someone who is), you'll get a discount, as well as free delivery and installation....I'm not a member but both my kids are!

regards
rusty...
