Recreational Skippers Ticket Recommendations
Submitted by tigerfish on Sun, 2010-09-12 20:17
Hi all,
Have just bought a boat - 3.8m roll-up inflatable and 25hp Tohatsu and need to do my skippers ticket. I've had boats on and off so pretty confident with them but would like to do one of the 'guaranteed pass' type courses just to be sure.
Does anyone have any recommendations for companies or individuals that do the RST course? I'm up near Joondalup, so Hillarys or Mindarie are convenient but would go down to Swan. I'd probably want to do it using the instructors boat as it's a bit of a hassle setting up and taking down the inflatable. Ideas of prices would also be good.
Thanks in advance

Cheers for the advice guys -
Cheers for the advice guys - did it today with Perth Boat School - Wayne Green at Hillarys. Would recommend them (and Wayne). Booking was very simple and seems you can pretty much book for wherever (boat ramps obviously) and whenever you want. Cost was $178 for 'guaranteed pass' plus extra $20 for using their boat (nice, simple, easy to use rig). THere were only two of us and got it all done pretty quickly.

Perth Boat School - Skippers Tickets
Thanks for all the good words guys, Wayne Green is an excellent trainer and an asset to our Boat School - he operates most of the Hillarys and NW metro training for us. We have 14 trainers scattered around so we can do Skippers Tickets 7 days a week, in all locations, basically - where you want when you want - is our motto, using an automated online booking system it works well.
We decided to operate a training school based on students and what students ask for. Thats why we dont have classroom lessons, why we train theory even on boats, why we have a selection of diffrent courses, because different people want different things. We change something nearly every week in one of our courses because of student suggestions.
Even our commercial Coxswains Restricted and VHF and soon full Coxswains, are all based on students needs. They dont waste your time, they are combined correspondence and on the boat, and EVERY time a student suggests something, we try to do it (open bar during training however didnt get the nod...).
If any of you guys have any suggestions on how to make it better for students - let us know.
This is not a plug/advert - just a thank you for the comments.
