recommended knot for monofilament to swivel

im gonna make some quick release leaders by tying a mono line to a snap swivel, on which i can quickly chuck a lure of any variety. however, the knot ive been using so far, the uni knot, has a tendency to mess up on me a few times before i get it right.

anyone recommend a good mono to swivel knot other than the uni knot?

Sounds like you are not doing the uni knot properly.Been using it for many years and extremely rarely do I have a problem with it snapping or not settling down.

i just get the doubled line

i just get the doubled line and wrap it around my finger to form a loop then put the tag end through twice and pull it tight. rarely had one break on me even when pulling in a 100 plus kg shark using 50lb line. easy tied and easy to remove from the snap swivel

Locked bloods are bad news, if you're going to use something like that, then at least use the trilene knot.

Improved Clinch Knot

Fri, 2010-01-15 11:27

I used this knot with mono for more than 40 years without any problems.  However I now mostly use the uni.  The improved clinch knot tends to curl the mono just above the knot.  Most importantly saliva up any mono knot before tightening.

Uni knot...  dont forget to

Uni knot...  dont forget to spit on it, and pull the tag end before you pull the main line. (So it tightens like a noose)

 or

The Palomar Knot... easier to learn and has the best knot strength... (if your using <20lb line)

late reply but anyways, i've been using mainly clinch nots for swivels, straight eye hooks and small sinkers that are made with swivel on it. I use uni now and then for no particular reason. If u can uni it, u can clinch it. Clinch is just faster. For ures, sometimes swivels and sometimes sinkers i do use lefty's loop but the most common i use for most sinkers is the double overhand. I only ever use 2 styles for hooks, snell for up or down turn eyes, and clinch for straight.

Gday Ashenfall, try this link. It is an animated knot tying site. Has everything. No doubt you will find what you want in here.

I agree with everyone else,

I agree with everyone else, Uni Knot all the way. I used to use a locked blood knot or clinch knot, but i started using a uni knot and i have never looked back. Other knots slip or reduce line strength but iv never had a problem with a uni knot.
