Mercury Optimax 115hp

Looking at buying a boat with my brother at the moment & the builder can offer us an ex-demo 115hp Mercury Optimax, so I'm after any advice if anyone has one or heard of any reports they can share. Couldn't find much with the search icon & Mercury's website states they're better than the e-tec in every department?? But nothing beat user feedback.

Beening a demo I guess its a pretty recent model. The earlier ones had a few dramas with the compressor but I believe that is well and truly sorted now. I am onto my second Optimax now and think there ok for a two stroke. They are pretty good on fuel and have heaps of grunt. I did 1400hrs on the first one and I only had the compressor go on me twice. New one has done 200 hrs without any dramas. IMO they're the best two stoke out there but hard to compare with the new four strokes.

I recon, i have a 2007 115 two stroke and love it. good on fuel and good performance also. Getting close to 300 hrs with out issue.
Make sure you get a good discount and extra warrenty for being ex demo.

Starting to think 115hp will be under gunned for the boat being 5mm bottom & 4mm side @ 5.8mtr.

If the Spec
for the boat allow's more HP and the budget is there then it dosnt hurt!!, better to be looking at it , than for it!!
Mine will push the 5.2 glass cuddy around with 4 on board no worries, you could have a touch more weight on your boat.

Go Bigger
Hi Fozz,
I would be putting the max HP rating on it.
The tender has a 150 verado (6.1m bar crusher) on it, and it goes great. Has heaps of power and you don't have to flog the engine to get it moving. I think it helps to have a bit of power behind ya encase it turns nasty or are loaded up to carry gear to the shack.
It would be a shame to see ya in K Town again with a slow boat too.
Cheers
Have pm you too.
If everything seems under control, you're just not going fast enough
