Submitted by camzak on Wed, 2011-04-27 11:46
I have a JRC ff50 that all ofr a sudden refuses to read the bottom. The screen shows 500ft + and the screen is full of noise. I have done a soft reset and checked the transduser all looks OK. I dont want to by a new transduser incase its not that.
Any help or advice would be great

hi brian , i also have the jrc ff5o in the boat me n my dad own , we have had similiar experiences . We found either do a reset on the sounder, an or turn it of n then on again, or check your batteries are fully charged we have noticed a significant difference when the batteries are low or not fully charged. Also check the plugs and wires in the back of the sounder. Hope this helps cheers

No worries mate,We have
No worries mate,We have found that jrc needs full batts to properly display everything. Which mode or display do you use when sounding ? As we general have it on narrow beam and a single screen, I was thinking of doing half normal and half zoom if thats possible on this model. cheers

I normaly run in STD/ bottom
I normaly run in STD/ bottom discrimination mode, its a bit wierd to start with as the hardness is shown as lines above the bottom ie the longer the line the harder the bottom, there are lots of different modes to choose from not sure about half normal/half zoom
Cheers

Yeh I have searched on the net of what other users have there settings on , so i might experiment with it a bit. I think once you get comfortable with a specific setting you dont want to touch it . They are a brilliant sounder I have never had any troubles or problems with mine. Cheers Reese

i have the ff60 and the same was happen to me and i had my settings on standard and zoom in and it was reading all over the place and the screen was a big mess. so i switched to the 50 and 200 screen and not a problem at all can see the bottom clearly at speed as well. not sure if it is a falt in the jrcs but a brilliant sounder all round would not swop it for anything.
thanks rocky

If its power related
As mentioned above and working only on full batteries, sounds like it could be a resistance problem? Are the battery terminals clean or have they got a white/green buildup? Are the terminals and all connections clean and tight fitting? No loose connections?
Are the batteries in good nick etc?
