Finally cracked it for a dolphinfish

Been on my bucket list for years, took a charter out of Rarotonga with Akura Charters.....never realised just how hard these fish go until I hooked this one on a halco gold bomber, solid fifteen minute fight on lightish gear before the skipper gaffes it. Went 21kg on the scales. Local restaurant for $10 a head turned a bit of the fish into five different preparations.....stunning

Colour fades quickly.
I haven't seen many but that is a large version for sure. And agree they taste beautiful, any way you like.

Nice fish Sunshine! I've caught a lot of dollies but most were smaller than yours. They fight so well on light gear and are a winner on the plate for sure!

Super nice dolly Gordon, yeah, they do go good on the light gear and even better on the plate.

Ceviche
They also make excellent ceviche.
If you venture to the FAD's off Rottnest there usually dolphinfish there every year. Better results toward April/May when the FADs have been in for a while.
They tend to be a bit smaller though - around 8-10kg max, but still very good fight on ultralight tackle.
