Cost of new installed 300 outboards

 Gday guys, quick question.

looking at new installed 300 outboards for a new Caribbean 2300.

received back 2 quotes so far.

yammy 300 installed fly by wire with digital guards 38k, has hydraulic steering

merc v8 verado 300 mercury vessel view 7", dts controls 46k. Has power steering

now both these outboards are advertised online at Brisbane marine and Brisbane Yamaha as circa 31k plus install.

are the above quotes taking the piss? Certainly the merc quote threw me a bit.

cheers

Yammy prices often dont

Yammy prices often dont include prop, rigging etc so might be why different to the QLD price.

Not sure why the Merc is so much more. Normally they seem to come in the same ballpark no matter the brand.

I know the 250 Yammy is over 30k installed

Some really good deals on the suzi 325's at the moment. Low 40's.

Have noticed most dealers

Have noticed most dealers advertise price of engine only + install

What they dont include is the ss prop and rigging (controls and gauges)

And in additional hydraulic steering is than added on top as that is seperate to the engine completely

So from what starts at 31k than quickly becomes close to mid-high 30's with everything else required for the actual fitup. Unless you a repowering and can re use rigging/steering

Ok cool, just wanted to make sure I wasn't being completely ripped.

im leaning toawrds the merc 300 verado. Told top speed is circa 46 knots.

im more after midrange torque and a fast, economical cruise.

though 8k less for the yammie is appealing.

decisions.

I'd be looking at the new Mercury Pro XS. Blows any other engine out the water when it comes to torque and speed, and it stays economical too. Sounds like a beast wot being a v8.

yammys

i look after several brands on our local rescue vessel   yammys 350 and 425s ,   suzi 300 and 325 hps   i have had mercurys and would check if going to Veradahs are they still super charged and is the super charger oil temp and levels are monitored ,  the yammys are a good motor and the 300 hp is a great unit , however the suzis 300 are better IMO  especially the extended warranty and sevice costs , when you go into the 325 hp these are a duo prop  different motor again as you do need to watch the power steering pump setup , slightly noisier and more expensive to fix should you hit the reef being duos.

The yammys only have one gauge where as suzis have two or three depending what options you add on

Nah mercs aren't supercharged. That's the older verado that finished in 2017

32.5k for a Suzi 300apx. That was through West Coast Suzuki in Henderson. Deal was done at the boat show so you get their annual free rigging which is a good saving. The Yammy was very similar pricing through chivers from memory. The dealers wouldnt be moving much stock at the moment because of restrictions and people being careful with their money, play hard ball with them and i reckon you better your current quotes by a fair bit.

A couple of things to think about.

Mon, 2020-05-25 12:44

if you go the Verado version of the 300hp V8, you are paying a lot more. They have the AMS (advanced mid section), with the power steering built in, more weight and more dollars. Considerably so. They have no more HP than the "ordinary" CMS 300hp V8. Pro XS version of any Merc is near 10% higher in actual output, it's all about getting around transom ratings.  Apparently, the AMS has very good noise and vibration damping, but I have seen reputable Merc dealers , at least in the US, telling people they aren't worth the extra money. Also you have hydraulic steering already included and installed in the price of that hull you are paying for.

That Brisbane Yamaha site is usually quoting a bare motor. When I've looked at it, they are not even including a prop, for chrissake. So if you were over there and buying, you'd end up at least 8k more by the time you had a prop, rigging, and controls, and running.

Now,  Mansfields are probably using Aquasports for the Merc  quote. I would give them a real big miss, from what I have seen. the bloke that runs that shop is just a smartarse who really doesn't give a toss.  I shouldn't have said that, but it is true, IMO. Same with Hi-tec. There is a dealer down in Henderson, name escapes me, who is highly recommended by the dealer in Gero. He has to deal with bad instals done by these blokes, when blokes go to Perth just to "save" a few hundred on a new instal quote, then expect him, the local dealer, to fix the fuckups done in Perth  which quickly surface when they get their new instal home.

The Boat Business

Mon, 2020-05-25 15:33

The Boat Business is the other merc dealer your thinking of in henderson. Theyre next door to Oceanic Fab where i had my boat built. They were 36 ish fitted for a non verado 300 from memory just under a year ago.

 Cheers guys, the yammie

Mon, 2020-05-25 15:47

Cheers guys, the yammie quote is through Mansfield, merc was another dealer. I will ask about the conventional 300 and the pro xs.

Wish this shit was straight forward, I'm finding quite a few of these marine joints difficult to deal with, maybe they don't need my money?

Merc

If your looking at the Merc I would at least get a price from Midway Marine in Rocko.

They seem to be going through a good number of engines atm so likely competitive on price

I have a feeling Dingyworld

Mon, 2020-05-25 21:27

I have a feeling Dingyworld quoted me 36k rigged and fitted for the standard Merc 300hp. DTS as standard.

I wouldn't want the Verado electronic steering, would make autopilot so much harder. I have my heading hold on for 90% of my time underway... Saves me a fortune on fuel actually driving in a stright line

Yeah right. Surprised how expensive these quotes I've received are, west coast Suzuki quoted me 41k on the duoprop 300. I've asked for the regular 300 price.

 An older post but still

Fri, 2021-03-05 06:01

An older post but still might be relevant.

I have just ordered a 2300 with single 300hp Yammie. The new model with built in steering. Total cost about $41k but that includes the Helmaster system and the C5 guage as well a prop.

By my reckoning that makes motor and prop a touch under $30k

Cheers

About $19k with the full kit

About $19k with the full kit which included the bolt on steering assembly. New v6 outboard models have that built in so need for the upgrade

$25k might be a WA special price
