with mako magics 225hp Honda, very quiet and pushes his 670 allrounder past 40kt with good economy with the v-tec. My mate has a 200hp Verado like scotto's and it pushes his tub along nicely (sounds awesome on full song), but from what he told me they tend to be a bit thirstier, a bit heavier and a touch more costly to service than comparative 4 strokes given it's forced induction nature. But if memory serves me correctly you've had (or currently have) a Verado already, so am I preaching to the converted?
In reality, I dont think you could go wrong with a Zook, Honda or Yamaha - it would come down to purchase and servicing costs I reckon (which for me rules out a verado).
Hondas are the go Alfred they only do 4 stroke they are quiet they have the lowest emmisions they last for thousands of hours and they dont look like a black pimple on the ass of a boat.If you put one of the new 225 hondas on outrageous not many boats will come near you.
or Tohatsus. I have always wondered about that and my neighbour is a com diving company owner and he only run big Yammies on his boats. Is it factory deals?
In alot of areas yamaha are the most popular engine for commercial operators. Because they last and have very little problems. I work on a few with over 3500 hours that have had no major problems and they have a hard life. Yamaha or suzuki for me for a rec boat. Yamaha for a commercial boat.
I know the com guys dont bother flushing their boats because they get flushed so much. I also recall Ads saying somewhere on a post that the guys in Exxy dont flush their motors because the water is to calcium rich.
Sorry to pinch the post a bit, but I would go Suzi, Honda and esp yammie 4S bigguns.
when we are off perth and probably another 600 to 800 heavier on the islands trips. The weight onboard doesnt seem to effect me at all apart from trim angles of coarse. We get up around 45/46 knots two or three up with normal gear on the boat.If i set the motor up with a different prop and took it up a hole im sure we could get more but why bother unless it would make it better on fuel. The reason we went the honda over the yammie in the end was it is a little bit quieter and the emission level is much lower. Also i have been out on a lot of rec boats with 2500 plus hours on them and they have had very few issues.I personally dont think you can compare pro hours with rec hours outboards used on a daily basis vs ever few weekends is like putting a taxi up against a car that is driven in a start stop start situation the rec motor should in theory have more issues. If that makes sense. The other thing is how many millions of honda v6 cars are there around the world and between them and the honda outboards they have a very good reputation for reliability. The toyotas of the ocean go everywhere and get you back.I havent meet a honda outboard owner that hates their choice yet.I am sure there maybe one or two in the world though.
I have to agree, but the Honda and Yammy are not far off. The Suzuki has the biggest displacement though and DOHC, so it's likely the least stressed motor, which I like.
try brett ward in pinjarra,he gave me a good tradein on my yamie and a great price on a new suzuki 140 hp for my boat, also picked up my boat, done a sea trial and delivered my boat home brett wards number is 0407384437, he is very proffesssional and great service and gives you a better price than most of the dealers around perth,so alfred i thouroughly recomend brett
was at the time it was near on impossible to get parts in oz.A mate had hondas taken off and suzi 140s put on soon after he picked up a sunken mooring rope and trashed the shaft and box took weeks to get the bits.I am sure it has changed now but at the time it was a factor.
Hi alfred I have just purchaced new honde 225 and couldnt be more happy with my choice.Their reputation sells itself. All honda make is 4 strokes and they really set the bench mark for reliability and economy.I have a 24ft swift craft and being an older boat it is quite a bit heavier than these new boats but im still capable of WOT of 45kn and cruise at 26kn getting fuel economy figures of 1L/nm.I know what I would get again. A HONDA
Honda or Yamaha, i've been in both and owned two yammys and i love them, couldn't care which was bolted to the rear. I'm sure Suzuki's are no different. Any one of the three and you can't go wrong
i just bought a 300 yamaha havent use it much yet but the 225,250,300 new yamaha offshore are all the same block dont think much difference in price in between 250 and 300 thats why i went for the 300 but awesome motor i would like to see these op against 2 stroke hole shot will put you on you ass if you are not holding on even at 3200 rpm dump it and it halls ass fuel looks goo from what ive seen 22kn at 1l p/nm and 27kn 0.8nm per litre on 26ft ally the 250 looks not much different on the figures either
had a honda 115 on old boat no prob with that but the only make 225 wich i thought might be a bit small for my boat did a bit of research on different motors all have there ups and downs but the pure grunt of these new motors you can look on youtube and see comparrison between the old and new 250 outboards the hole shot leaves the old model behind fuel is awesome reliability 4 year warranty i know suzuki has 5 years as long as there are parts in australia but they are great motors too as i looked at the 300 zuk weight of the new yamaha is only 268 kg for 225 - 300 the new command link plus guage 5' lcd screen everything on it even a troll mode fly by wire now no cables just a great motor and yamaha have 6.99% finance at the moment thats cheaper than my house as well i got a discount on my insurance through yamaha insurance as i put one of there motors on my boat.
Hpdi 4 stroke. Been out for a while in the US and should be due here If not already. Suprised you havn't come across them yet. Seriously sexy looking motor too.

plus 1 for the suzuki's. i would be using less than half the fuel i used to (compared to my old johnson 2-stroke).
a mate has a 250 verado, and that is just plain awesome, if you have the ca$h.

I have had both the Johnzuki
I have had both the Johnzuki and currently the Verado, love them both, but I feel that the Suzuki is quieter and less thirsty as well.
Max transom rating is 250, so that leaves the 300 out - pity!
Does anyone know if Suzuki has a fly by wire option as well?

Suzuki call it Suzuki
Suzuki call it Suzuki Precision Control, not sure but it used to be only available on the DF300.
Edit: this table I dug up says its only available on the 300hp jobbie;

Jeez you didnt mention racing above
With racing engines I do believe the mercs come back into the equation. For some reason and I dont know why, they seem to dominate the racing scene.
I dont know if its related to hole shot etc.
I am sure when it comes to racing someone will have an opinion.
