yeah the Ali vs fibreglass question was a late inclusion lol, just found some good info. are they really a huge moneypit or is it more wanting to spend rather than needing to?
boat service, depends on motor allow about $500 per year for servicing and extra for any other problems
Insurance depends on the value I think I pay about $15 per fortnight on my boat worth about 10-12K
trailor rego about $80 per year
boat rego, cant remember price?
In date flares $85
epirb $200
Volunteer sea rescue membership $40
Fuel depends on motors/distance but probably at least $100 per trip if your heading out BB off Perth + bait/lures/rigs
Boats tend to require a bit more maintenencae than say your car so expect expense on top of that.
Other things like hydraulic steering playing up, trailor and anchor winches, lights, flooring and fixtures depending on types and quality can be expensive annoying things
I have a 5.2m with 115hp 2 stroke. Fuel for a whole day out to rotto, trolling etc is $40-$50, boat rego $150 a year, trailer $50, insurance $700, service $400 a year. Flares every year or so at $100. Best and cheapest investment I've ever made. I love my boat, and the ability to share my time with one or 2 mates in the middle of the ocean.
If a mate comes, they buy all the bait, the ice, breaky in the morning, soft drinks and water, and we split the fuel, or sometimes I pay for it entirely. They then do all the anchor work etc. and all in all we have a great day. As long as you use the boat at least once a month it's worth it.
In regards to glass vs Ali, I would only ever by a glass boat. But that's me. Better ride, and look better too.

Insurance, rego for boat and trailer, petrol, servicing. Don't know prices but these are the Main things that you'll fork out for
Ali is lighter but rides harder, glass is heavier and rides so much better.

to put it bluntly. it is
to put it bluntly. it is cheaper to go and buy your fish from a market than chasing down your own.
boats are not cheap to maintain and run with all the other costs involved. if your after a great day out with mates or family go for it.
If you were to take a family out for a movie and dinner (not Macas) the cost would be less on the day but would work out about the same over all.
