<5m Runabout, any recommendations?

Hi Guys,

Been lurking around here for a while but only just got around to signing up. Have had a makes old Seeker FG runabout on loan for a few months and it has really given me a taste for getting out on the water so Ive started looking for something of my own. Budget at the moment is around $10k and it has to be 5m or under as thats all the room ive got without knocking down my patio. Im leaning towards ali at the moment but am open to glass but I only have a Forester to tow it with and while it tows the boat im using at the moment it uses about 1/3 of a tank just to get to woodies so its going to be a bit over the top If I wanted to head further afield. Is there any hulls that anyone can recommend? Is it better to stick with the usual Quinnie/Stacer/Savage offerings?

Cheers

Happy with anything similar but would probably wouldnt go for a fully cuddy, would prefer the deck space. That said something with a bit of spray protection would be good, sick of getting drenched coming back in in the chop.

Have a squizz at this one for comparison it's glass but the ride be so much sweeter...don't rush take a few for a run , you'll know when one feels right for you and what you want to do with it...the only advice I could give would be to stick with a well maintained 4 stroke if possible ...good luck

Look at the deadrise on those small alis and combine that with the light weight. They will bang and bounce in even relatively small chop. Ok inshore or if you don't mind that sort of back breaking ride.

I know this is overeast but a far more usable option for similar money if you can find one here (or go for a drive)

Cheers for the feed back, the only reason I was leaning towards aliminium is I only have 4 cylinder car to tow with and Im limited to a 70kg tongue weight. Need to do a bit more research on how much the fibre glass boats weight and whether Im going to be able to tow one.

like the title says.

100-200 bucks can save you a lot of heartache, not to mention hip pocket pain.

Find a good mechanic and spend a couple extra once you have a short list.

Just my opinion.

 Checking out a boat

Mon, 2013-01-14 22:08

Checking out a boat tomorrow, is 300hours on a 2002 Honda falling into the low use corroding in the backyard category? And is there any reason you would change a prop apart from damaging it?
