I considered the coral cod as well gribbo, however the coral cod doesn't have the pale bars that are aparant on the peacock rock cod. Also, you'll notice the body fades to yellow before changing to a dark coloured tail which is also aparant on the peacock.
looking at the salt its laying on it either from useless loop, canarvon or dampier so definately northern, in a book im looking in it looks very similar to a juvenile tomato cod same colouration same shape. (from the "guide to sea fishes of australia" book)
Im going for coral cod,in Grants guide to fish book it does say they can vary colours. depends where tey are caught.But soon as i saw it i thought coral cod.
