Looks like its moved even closer to the coast since then, thinking we might get some solid action here in Exxy.

The BOM one has it giving

Wed, 2011-01-26 07:56

The BOM one has it giving Karratha a good rattle and Monties a pretty much direct hit. Might be a bit stronger again by the time it gets to you Adam.

Supposed to be...

Wed, 2011-01-26 07:58

...flying into Karratha tonight! Might have to ring Qantas and verify that, I think!

Don't know if it'll get as far south as snappermiles reckons, but even if it doesn't the very warm water we're having off the metro area this year means chances are good another one could get down this far.

its not looking good up that way. just got of the phone to dad who says u cant see past the front of your car while driving past the airport heavy heavy rain. he's stoked though no work. his camp (searipple) got evacuated there now sleeping on the floor at gapridge and they are predicting up to 175 kmph winds

Also they think its only 20kms offshore but going to stay offshore

yeah i heard that. GRV

Wed, 2011-01-26 15:10

yeah i heard that. GRV residents finish up dinner at 8:00pm and the searipple guys move in after that. hope everyone likes snoring...will also be interesting to see how they handle breakfast.

Port Hedland is apparently getting a fair bit of rain as well but it doesn't seem to be showing up on BOM as a reading. i'm 200kms south and its fine down here with the odd shower.

Latest update:

"DAMAGING WINDS with gusts to 120 kilometres per hour are expected for a period between De Grey and Whim Creek this afternoon, extending to Karratha late this afternoon or this evening and to Onslow and Exmouth during Thursday morning. DESTRUCTIVE WINDS with gusts to 160 kilometres per hour are possible between Whim Creek and Mardie later today, moving further west overnight.

If the cyclone moves closer to the coast VERY DESTRUCTIVE WINDS with gusts to 200 kilometres per hour may be experienced at Onslow and Exmouth during Thursday morning.

Heavy rain is expected in coastal parts between De Grey and Mardie during this afternoon, extending further west overnight. Localised stream rises are likely but widespread flooding is not expected."

Not that bad in Hedland. Rain

Wed, 2011-01-26 15:17

Not that bad in Hedland. Rain and wind but not too bad. Probably blowing 30 knots or so. Might be a bit more down near Brads place on the beach.

Karratha on Red

Wed, 2011-01-26 15:46

Karratha on red, we go on yellow at 5pm.  One half of the sky is blue, the other half over the gulf is menacing as all hell.  Wished I could get a pic to adequately show how evil it looks!  With the amount of warm water in the gulf at the moment, would be suprised to see it sucked over Exxy.  Will wait and see, all locked down and loaded.
