Yamaha 150hp vs Mercury 115hp Optimax

Hi all,

Just a question

I have a fraser 626 fibreglass boat that currently has a yamaha 2-stroke 1990 150hp v6 (600 hours). I have a spare motor which is a mercury 2-stroke 2006 115hp optimax (150 hours). Thinking of installing the mercury and getting rid of the yamaha.

What are peoples thoughts on this? The mercury runs quiter, uses less fuel and smokes less. But how would they compare power wise?

I can't find any specs anywhere for the yamaha

Thanks
Shaun

should get a heap more hours before touching it and wont struggle as much mates got 150 hpdi with 2000 on it no probs depending on operator of couse not saying any thing is wrong with merc but as vinesh87 says 626 frazer is a solid boat and needs some grunt depending on what your doing with it of course.

I would go with the Yamaha.

Reckon you would be a bit under done with the Opimax 115hp. The glass boat being bigger and heavier.

I say that because I run a 115 on my 6m ali and yes it is quiet but I would like a few more hp.

Fuel

If you are thinking of changing motors to save fuel, forget it because the 115 would be working hard  to give the same performance you are used to with the 150 which is just ticking over.

But wouldnt the 150 be rated

But wouldnt the 150 be rated at the engine not the prop? So be around a 130 or something?
