Whats your plans for This coming cray season?

With crays season not to far away i can already feel the adrenaline running through my body.

Whats your plans for the season?...... Give it a few weeks till you drop pots? Follow what the pros are doing?

I myself will be finshing up work in karratha on 30th november so will be out diving around the rockingham/ safety bay area 3 weeks into the season. If last year is anything to go by this year shouldn't be to bad.

Hoping to explore some new ground down towards golden bay mandurah way through out the season.

Whats your thoughts?

Mitch

Dive, dive, dive! Also, not

Dive, dive, dive! Also, not get eaten by a shark, that would be nice.

This year i'm going to start logging all my locations and the moon phase to hopefully start building up a better 'almanac' of when and where they are for best sucess.

Not having a gret white

Pay two visits to me witnin minutes of hitting the water of Garden Island - the first a fast swim by (only felt the wash of it's tail) the second a much closer inspection...............kinda put me off crays for most of the season, dived Dampier instead - more sharks but much safer and got a pearl from a pearly shell I picked up off the bottom just for a laugh in caser it had a pearl in it ........go figure the odds of that

Hmmm, yeah, I remember that

Hmmm, yeah, I remember that story, thanks for reminding me. Now I will be thinking of this next dive. Haha.

But yeah, not the sharks that matter, its the types of sharks...

Probably more likely to drown or get DCI though...

Hlokk, smart move mate we started logging two years ago with moon phases, depth, what we got on that location. Starting to see a little pattern but as the years go on the more research we will have.

Lots of diving, the pros kind of give it away a bit though.

Two Rocks

Mon, 2011-10-10 13:39

Coming down for a fortnight over xmas and stopping at the daughters in Two Rocks, will be dragging the boat down and potting all the spots that used to produce when I lived down there.

If it is like last year

Tue, 2011-10-11 07:36

You will kill it for about 2-3 weeks in close then that will be it.... As Till said the pros are the guide. Unless you know of a few breeding lumps which always produce.. I have one where i have seen the biggest crays you cant loop on your own cause you cant get your hand around them...But they are females so we leave them and pick off the small ones. Was there a few weeks ago and its chockers, crays the size of dive bottles spent 5 mins busting open a busted off cray pot that was chockers...

Something different

Wed, 2011-10-12 22:03

We've dived the same good old realiable spots too many times. They always produce, but time to try out a few new spots this year. Might even get off my ass and go and have a look at the Quay Biscayne on a nice day.
