small/micro jigs for up north?

I'm heading to Onslow in the coming weeks. Have a eupro twincraft, max jig wt. 120gm and a daiwa exceler 4000 with 20lb braid.

I have very little jigging experience but have recently been getting into microjigging (from shore) around town, which is good fun. Just wondering if anyones tried micro/small jigs (up to say 40gm?) up north, and can point me in the right direction as to a few brands or types of jig that I should look at. Guess i'm hoping to target small-medium reef species as my setup is pretty light.

thoughts appreciated, cheers.

You will get sick of it

You will get sick of it pretty quickly is my guess. Thousands of little Charlie Courts, Flag and other little reefies will annoy you flat out.

Banana jigs

Wed, 2014-04-30 21:37

Had a lot of success with homemade banana jigs on queenies, various trevs, small reefies and cobia. Making them myself meant it didnt hurt so much when I got sharked or blitzed, which happened often.

 Got any lying around big

Got any lying around big john? I am thinking metal jigs but a few of those wouldn't hurt. Dodgy, not too worried about shit fish; It's not actually a fishing trip, but i will be staying on a boat... long story. So I'll just be fishing when time permits and not overly concerned with targetting any particular species, would be happy to pick up something tasty but. So kinda just doing it for fun and to get some practice on jigging.

PM sent.

I wouldn't use any flash metal jigs are there, the macks will soon souvenir them unless you rig them on wire.

I can remember many years ago

I can remember many years ago (15+) a guy gave me a couple of micro jigs, maybe only 1 or 2 grams !!.... very small. They had immediate success with flathead, flounder, bream etc when fishing Carnarvon jetty with 1kg line. I never used them again but they worked really well, Ive never even seen them in shops.

Hey mate,

We stock a variety of small / medium / large micro jigs which would be perfect for what you are looking to do. They start at $10 for the cheaper ones and go up from there.

Come in and take a look and we can help you out!

Cheers

IMA Guns are great and start

IMA Guns are great and start at around 20g.

Maria Shore tricker (comes with twin assists) 25g and 40g are excellent

The downrigger shop (Sydney) sells an excellent 40g jig, comes with assist on a split ring but I just rig them up with assist cord onto a solid ring. can't find them on his site but email Andrew and he'll point you in the right direction http://www.downriggershop.com.au/
