second assist hook
Submitted by randall df223 on Wed, 2013-12-18 19:49
Does anyone hang a second assist hook from the (other) end of the jig?
does it increase your hookups or detract from the swimming action of the jig?
Comments appreciated.

About all it wll do it
About all it wll do it increase snagging the bottom and risk of gettting a hook stuck in your arm trying to unhook the seargent bakers......

Yeah not worth it Randall.
Yeah not worth it Randall. Best just to run the double Assist off the top of the jig

Unless you are doing high
Unless you are doing high pitch /long fall type of slow jigging, 2 assist at the top will suffice.
However for slow jigging ( currently limited to O/H) the jig will be fluttering almost horizontal all the time and hence the fish may attack either end of the jig not knowing which end is the head. Hence twin assist are attached to both ends of the jig- head & tail.

I agree with the snagging comments
as I have lost a number of slow jigs as a result of them becoming snagged. An interesting option perhaps would be to attach a bottom assist on a light assist cord / nylon trace that would break (as in sacrificial) in the event it was to become snagged.
