We have stayed at Drummond Cove C/V park
on the way up and back when leaving late.

Cottage on the hill , ticks box's.
Otherwise leave Perth at 7 have a couple of 30 min stops and you'd be there by 5pm comfortably.
Reverse cycle a/c supply and install - Ducted and wall splits

Shark bay is easily done in a day with a few stops. Wouldn't bother stopping overnight

Northbrook Farm Stay is a good one. Simple accommodation and you are only a couple of hours south of the turnoff.

We did this a couple of years
We did this a couple of years ago and stayed in Gero on the way up with a 5 and 7 years old. Doing it in 2021 again but going to drive straight through this time. Personal opinion but pretty much wastes a day either way plus nights accomodation and food so just going to push through this time with a few stops, get there before dinner.

I do the drive to Hartog
I do the drive to Hartog straight no sleep like above it's a waste of time stopping unless you are tired then stop
leave early in the morning better traffic and cooler road temps if towing from perth should be able to do 440 road house. Then overlander

S Bend Caravan Park, just
S Bend Caravan Park, just south of Geraldton.
Last time we stopped over it was around $75 for a family donga.
As others have mentioned, you can do Shark Bay in a day, but can understand you may want to break it up with a 5 year old on board !
Stopped overnight once in the caravan park in Northampton, definitely would NOT recommend an onsite van there.

thanks to everyone
all the advice much apreciated
we will look into all accomodation suggested, but we are now leaning towards pushing through as some have suggested
I hope everyone has had great start to the new year.
time now to dust of the crab nets and get ready for a dawn run in the swan!
