Hey guys,
What do you do for campsite refrigeration?
I have a trip planned to warroora station for the week before Easter and I'm wondering what to do for keeping stuff cold.
Currently I have:
Camper trailer with solar to provide power.
40l Waeco
A range of ice box sizes to choose From.
Currently as I see it my options are:
1. Buy a second fridge so one on freezer one on fridge.
2. Waeco on ice maker duties and Esky with ice in it.
3. Big ice box with dry ice and block ice to hopefully stay cold for the week, t hen freezer for ice making and fish freezing?
Let me know what you have done/seen.
I have a dual cab Ute with canopy and a camper trailer as a base set-up
Cheers

Two
I use 2 fridges, one on freeze (in the camper on solar) one on fridge (in the car).
beer/water etc in the fridge, food in the freezer.
depending on how long you are going, and how many people, you can get away with just the fridge, but it's a bit of a pain.

me
I have a 60L engel I run on freezer in the tent, and a 30L engel as a fridge in the car, and I use both on trips. it pays to keep as much frozen stuff in the freezer, so its a big mass. generally things will freeze faster if there is a big mass of frozen stuff in there. rotating the items every day will also help, especially if you're adding fillets.
your waeco will struggle to continually produce ice for the esky. in fact, it wont happen over a week. you'd be lucky to get 1 or 2 batches from it.
the dry ice is not a bad idea, although from memeory, it's expensive. I've used a little bit, and it freezes amazing quick, and keeps well.

Hire a generator
for $20 a day through Crikey campers thats what we do for steep point trips, running engels, large deep freezer (for all fish fillets and ice), stand up fridge freezer for beer and food also lighting everything cheap for $20 a day.

Yep . Genset .
We run gen . Two 40l Engels
both on freeze one for food
other bait and fish fillets
works well as your taking bait
out gives you room for fillets
and same for food gives you
room too put more cans in
lol ! So you start getting more
pissed as the trip goes on .

i have a well traveled 200 l ish chest freezer which can be borrowed
i just get by running it witha 1000w honda genset - will freeze 10l ice a night
for me and ms- when im not freezing water/ fillets i use a 40l engle as freezer 40 l waeco as fridge
there is no way an engel/ waeco freezes more than 4kg of fillets overnight- my experience- or about 1.5l of water
if u have a genie - i can lend u a chest freezer which fits under a ute canopy

An ice run to Coral bay is
An ice run to Coral bay is only a bit over an hour away if you do want to go with your current set up. They sell 10kg bags at the IGA and you can drop into the pub for a beer.
