HH 580 Breeze vs Cruise Craft 575 Outsider
Submitted by AHarman on Thu, 2013-02-14 06:42
Hi all,
Looking like I have finally narrowed down my boat of choice to the two above. I have been aboard both and love the layouts - leaning slightly towards the cruise craft due to WA (albeit tight). I was hoping some previous and current owners could provide some insight into the handling / ride of these rigs off our Coast. I know both are fantastic bluewater hulls - have not had the privellage to head out in one yet. Would appreciate the opportunity to accompany someone in one of these rigs (even for a quick moment) to aid my decision.
Thank you in advance
Adam

Nice boats, I looked at the bigger brothers last yr and my mate just bought a 575 explorer. My choice would be a 575 explorer in front of the outsider as it has a bit more deck room, and the walkaround on the outsider is too tight. Haines probably has a better hull but not as good a layout. Both good boats.
Boston Whaler 235 Conquest......getting the flogging it was built for.

Johns right, Explorer is a better fishing layout than Outsider. Harder to find Explorers though as they are newer.
one thing with Cruisecraft, you WONT beat the the backup and service from Kevin Nichols (head honcho) at CC whether you buy new or used.
Give a man a mask, and he'll show you his true face...
The older you get the more you realize that no one has a f++king clue what they're doing.
Everyone's just winging it.

My final two choices when
My final two choices when buying was a 575 outsider or the evolution 550. I went the evo for deck space/transom layout and a bit cheaper.
Saying that chivers had a 560 haines in stock a while back and it looked like a great setup and hull.
so really your in a win win position!

I have a 575 explorer and can't fault it
Consistently fish 30km + off shore always felt safe and dry, don't know about reasons but I did see a breeze cracked along the strake and nearly sink at Burmagui on the east coast a few years ago, not sure what happened but would put me off!
Would recommend Yamaha 150 4 stroke- its perfect

575 Outsider
Mate I have 575 outsider fitted with 150 Yamaha and she is an awesome little tub, I have had her out in the good the bad and the very ugly and never let me down. Great ride, safe, dry and does good on a few family days as well. i came to WA from the east and fished heaps out of Port Stephens, have it setup for game fishing and she caught her far share of strip marlin a long way from home, not heaps of deck space for bottom bashing if you want to take a boat load but can fish 4 ok. I would be happy to take you out for a run, going to be pretty flat out over the next couple of weeks then off to Gamex but could maybe fit something in if your keen.
Actually looking to off load mine soon to go up in size and will sure miss it when I do.

Haines has a little more
Haines has a little more deadrise and poss a bit heavier build. CC don't publish the hull weight apparently.
Certainly worth getting a sea trial in both. Both great boats
If I spent half as long fishing , as I do reading this bloody forum , I'd be twice the fisherman I am.

Cheers for the info lads
I am lucky to be in the tough situation of choosing between two fantastic rigs. Definately going to be a stepup from the Penguin Huntress which served me well for a few years! Love the Haines Hunters, but biased due to the old fella having a patriot.
Leaning towards the CC 575 at the moment - just like the layout a bit more!
M.Sheather - will send a PM now.
Cheers again guys,

Both great boats. These are
Both great boats. These are the 2 boats I am considering, however, in a 600R or 625 explorer.
You can compare the CC explorer & HH R quite well because they both have fairly forward helms which afford great deck space. The outsider isn't a true walk around, but you will get buy (uncomfortably walking around). For this, you compromise deck space, but gain in bunk space for overnighting etc.
Coming from experience with HH, they make very good hulls... very seaworthy & soft riding. I can't comment on the CC because I am yet to do a sea trial in one.
The CC interests me marginally more then the HH only due to reputation & availability (more in the market than the HH R's). Again from experience, I didn't find HH helpful whenever I had questions or concerns with my hull (520 prowler). The service of CC seems to be excellent, but I can't comment from first hand experience yet, so I am only relying on hear say (which there's heaps of when looking at CC's).
The CC are finished beautifully. There isn't really anything you can fault in terms of overall finish. They are great looking boats & they are laid out rather well.
The HH had problems post GFC when they moved their factory to Vic & from what I've read, some of their boats were poorly finished. They appear to have ironed out all those bugs now & from what I've seen, they are now very well finished if you're buying new.
For me, there are pros & cons to both. HH, soft riding, greater cabin/bunk space, excellent transome setup & heavier. CC, well finished, excellent resale & reputation, great after sales service, smaller bunk/cabin & lighter weight hull.
Either way, I don't think you will go wrong as they are exceptional aussie made boats.
