Brickies string for assist hooks on jigs?
Submitted by scano on Sat, 2013-09-14 08:06
Hi all,
wondering if anyone has contemplated or ever used brickies string line cord for their assist hooks?
yes I know they sell the proper Dacron in the fishing stores but most of the time the assist hook and cord cost nearly as much as the whole jig itself.
i was thinking of testing the breaking strain and trialling brickies string.
its cheap, comes in a multitude of colours and is readily available at bunnings.
any feedback would be good
cheers
scano

Not sure
about the brickies string but it's about $10 to buy a 5m spool of assist cord.
Hardly expensive for the real stuff.

Hey Scano,
having been a bricklayer for over twenty years I wouldn't trust brickies line as far as I could kick it. It's not very abrasion resistant and I certainly wouldn't trust it staying connected to a decent fish. I would stick with the assist cord for piece of mind.

No dramas
Thanks for the feedback fella's.
most of the assist cord I have seen in the shops is around $30 minimum for only a small length. So looks as though I just need to look a bit harder.
wasnt entirely sure about the bickies string line but I thought no harm in asking. I have been keen keen on the whole DIY making my own fishing gear lately. With the weather being so crappy lately there is not much else to do (not really keen to sit it out on the stones in the hope of getting drenched for 1 lonely snapper)
thanks again for the feedback

SHIMREELS is a great place to get that sort of gear at prices alot lower than local.
