It should be level with the water and not the hull line.  You want it to go straight down.

Mate, after seeing it today

Tue, 2007-12-11 21:58

Mate, after seeing it today you should be able to undo the 4 screws holding it to the boat and lift it up as far as it can go. Should be good then.
If not go back to the guys who fitted it.

yeah ill see how that goes. The people who I bought the boat off fitted it originally. These people are tossers and I wont be going to them for anything related to boats again.

I think you have to be careful on how you go about it. I'm not sure on how far defamation cases can reach. I guess if you explain what happened and named them then that might be ok, I really don't know. I really do think that these bad boating places need to be named thou to save other members from going through bad experiences.

So if i say, " the boatshop

Thu, 2007-12-13 19:03

So if i say,

" the boatshop in Kelmscott who is apperntly a qualified Evinrude dealer, fitter and mechanic stuffed my motor because one of the mechanics who worked on my boat performing an annual 100hr service fitted the water pump incorrectly, left a kink in the oil line, tightened the spark plugs to much and in doing so has caused a seal to blow and my motor to overheat and sensors to alarm which caused the motor to shut down"

So if i named the company i should be alright. Not being a smartass but i am in the process of writing letters to the Australian head office and American head office of BRP to explain my situation and will also be taking legal action towards the guys in kelscott to recoup my money as i had to pay Chivers to fix the problem they caused.

Thanks

There's always the Dept of Consumer Affairs - in case you haven't factored that in.

Fri, 2007-12-14 11:15

Can you tell me how overtighting a spark plug can blow a seal? what seal? and causing it to overheat, from the sparkplug being too tight. Doesnt sound right to me?

Yep, I think the transduecer issue has been covered, no probs with the off topic stuff as its still related to fishing.

The blown seal was from the

Andy

The blown seal was from the waterpump fitted incorectly. Its a rubber seal and there is a plate that sits under the seal. In simple terms the water pump blew the seal as they were not in the right place.instead of pumping water it was sucking more air than water. The plugs to tight and kink in the oil line was what caused the alarms to go off putting the motor into safe mode which is about 1000rpm.

This is the information given to me by Chivers Marine, who by the way have now fixed the motor and it is running 100% again

It was a combination of the 3 things that stuffed the motor

I had a service done before

Fri, 2007-12-14 20:11

I had a service done before going on my 6 week trip this year. They didnt tighten up one of the screws on the gear box and it slowly let water in and oil out. By the time I got to broome I was due for the 100 hours service, so I dropped it off and went fishing with a mate. I got a call later that day to inform me that my gear box was full of salt water and was rusted out.

F**king bastards didnt wanna take responsibility either. was without the boat for a week and a bit while they got me a new gearbox. the gear box was melbourne and they put it on a truck instead of a plane. When I asked them why they didnt fly it over they said it would have cost to much, I got angry and told them how much trip had cost. The wanka then started telling me that he had spoken to his lawyer and legally he didnt have to do anything, He said if he wanted to he could just say "up ya bum" to me. This guy said that to me alot, I think he had a fetish about putting things in his ass.

End rant

I think one of the main things mechanics/fitters don't understand is that your life can depend on your motor starting up everytime you turn the key, not like a car, where when you break down you can just get out and walk.  What if you went out fishing on the back of a reef and your motor breaks down out there...
