I've been getting some big blue spot flathead in the shallows but there's some thumpers out in the very deep.....the biggest ive seen was 4kg weighed (Harpuka grounds)
Nice effort Tim, deep water fish by the looks and Scott the Chinamans leather jackets are superb on the tooth.....i rate them highly.
Steve, i'd go the FCV1100 if your shelf fishing alot, mine is awesome out there in the deep but you cofff up more $$$......... always a connundrum eh!
Flatty was about 2.5kg. Got him on the first drop in 250m. Double header with one of those green eyed sharks.
bouttime - All the fish came from between 200 - 260m except the queeny and little leathery that we got from a lump we found on the way out.
The 585 is currently running the standard 600w tranny. I have a 1kw wet box in the boat but it isnt working properly yet. Not sure how deep it will go yet but should be alot deeper once the 1kw is setup properly. Was just trying different things with gain etc and working out best settings. The gain was only 4.7 in that pic and on high frequency. Showed alot more as the gain went up. I thought about the 1100 but for the $$$$$$ couldnt justify it for the amount of times I would be fishing out that deep. Still very happy with the 585 and rate it as my best fishing investment.
Bit of both Dean. Snapper and Leatheries came from an area of stucture and the flathead was off flat ground around an area I had found on a chart and was checking out.
Wasnt too bad yesterday Dean. We could fish 16 and 20oz sinkers in 250m.
Id go an electric reel if I was going out to the 3-400m areas but its not really my thing. Quite happy using the Torque out in the depths where we were.
Good to see the boys getting plenty of frames to work on.
I'll be giving Ian a call on Tuesday to pick up a few from my place. Including that big one of Kasey's which will be interesting to see how old it was.
Great variety of fish mate. I'm not sure how my rugby-back would handle 250m+ of water. I would have to pre-book a physio visit if I was to fish that deep.

Nice catch
By the way what depth does your sounder run to and with what transducer.
I am looking at either a 585 or 1100.

Is a beauty of a flathead, we dropped one at the boat that was about 90cm long a couple of weeks ago.

Thats Why
Thats why I offered Andy - I know you normally dont go past 50m. Good exercise for you.
Had to come up with a Snell Variation while we were out there to stop them from stealing all our hooks.

Was Good
Was good Spess. Managed to use 16 and 20oz sinkers in 250m. Wind and current were the same direction so it made it better.
No problem Bill. Should get some more good weather soon.
