PB Jigged Dhuy
Submitted by Seaquest on Tue, 2011-01-04 11:26
Went out for a fish this morning off Cape Nat. Decided to leave early to try and avoid the crowds. Was at the ramp at around 6am and we were about the 5th boat there. After a couple of drifts at our first spot we had our first dhuy on board. It was around 7kg and caught on a fresh piece of squid. With nothing interested in my jig I decided to try another spot about 500m away. First drop resulted in the pictured dhuy. Caught on a green and gold Caprice jig and is my PB to date on a jig. Was back at the ramp at 8.30am.

very nice fish
congrats Brendan.
I like the fact you think 48m is "in close", I'd hate to think what "out wide" would be.
Cheers

I got my PB dhuy yesterday
I got my PB dhuy yesterday around the 28meter mark. All 3 of us had bait down and were getting a lot of bites but nothing hungry. I decided to put on the 100g knife jigg and try my luck.
About the 5th drop i was on, i was calling it for a little sambo, seen the color start coming up, dad calling it a snapper then all a sudden it came to the top and bam! nice 8-8.5kg dhuy was stoked, never had a dhuy on a knife jig before, as i heard they just sit there and wait for the bait/lures to fall right in front of their nose. Was winding it pretty quick giving it a quick action in the water so was suprised about this dhuy
Will be trying it a lot more now.

Gets very deep very quickly
Gets very deep very quickly off Cape Naturaliste. You can be in 45m of water less than 1km out. We were only 5kms out.

Having a spot where the depth
Having a spot where the depth drops off that quickly would certainly make life alot easier. Well done 13.5kg is a great fish by any standards.

The whole
area is like that Ryno. I'm pretty sure that a depth of 15-20m is within casting range at the Cape.
