No crays today but I ticked another box
Knocked off work at three today and went for a dive/fish. Didn't see a single cray, very disapointing. Once I was back onboard out went the deep divers as we followed the reef in search of a wahoo. 15 minutes in one of the lines took off and soon a nice little albacore tuna of 5.5kgs was on ice. Shortly after we chased a massive school of tuna for about 5 minutes before a huge hook up. It was called for either a marlin or a huge yellow fin. 30 minutes of pain later for my fishing buddy Dean up came what we estimate to be a 90-100kg shark. Not what we wanted but definately a good fishing capture. It was released in the water and by this time the school had disapeared. So we headed back to the reef to chase wahoo again. 10 minutes into the troll we were on. It was my turn at strike so I picked up the rod and enjoyed the fight. Landed my first ever dogtooth tuna, and I can now say that they go bloody hard. This one weighed in at 12.65kgs (28lbs) so not massive but it was a first for me and I am stoked. Caught a little blue-fin trevally on the way back home. Just finished cryovacing the dogtooth, leaving some out for a feed tomorrow after work. Happy days.

Nice doggie Soupy, they sure
Nice doggie Soupy, they sure do go hard for their size. If you find a few on the troll try jigging or even casting diving lures, they go even harder from a stationary boat. While it's a pity they almost fight to the death and don't release well, they are really tasty and all the ones I've caught and kept don't seem as "red" as YFT or SBT.

Agree Tim
Agree Tim. The flesh is definately the cleanest/clearest I've seen on a tuna.

Hee hee
Couldn't agree more Ben. Catching herring on a freezing cold Perth morning - or Marlin and Dog Tooth Tuna at Pohnpei. Fair trade I reckon.
