ye jigs mean alot in squidin u dont have the wright jig u wont get the squid u might get a couple but not lots like u would with a good jig.
but technique dosent matter i found on the weekend just leavin the rod in the rod holder and letting the boat rock the jig around was pretty effective some how.
got 30 squid from just leaving the rod in the rod holder.
Technique is the most important thing when squidding landbased behind the jig of coarse. Leaving the jig in the rod holder my be good in the boat but if you did it landbased you'd loose alot of jigs. Next time your fishing from a boat leave a rod in the holder and one in your hands, It's more fun and it will lead to more squid as the better quality jigs are made to be worked hard and fast.
I would love to have the top of the range jigs but I just can't afford it :/ I'm working on my techniques which is producing a couple of squid but nowhere as many as I would like (: I'm getting there though thanks for the help (:
if you could get 15 bucks you can get a yamashita and that will last you a while till you have enough for more. I have some diawa jigs and a few yo-zuri jigs for sale if your keen.
Awww.... Thats just way too cute. It makes me want to run to the shop and buy Nick some. Keep at it Nick and if u ever see me out fshing somewhere, your more than welcome to pinch some of my stuff. Not like I get to go fishing very much. :)

Yeh I will definitely have a look another time seeing I just spent $300 on a new reel so I'll be saving up for a bit :p planning to get a twinpower and a few nice jigs and get into this squidding addiction in the next couple of months hopefully
Twinpower for your first squidding reel jeez mate your loaded. Get an E-GEE or the new cheaper Emeraldas mate. Great reels and for only 215-230bucks and made fore squidding. Dont get me wrong if you've got that money to spend go for it but if your only going to use it to get into squidding its a bit much haha.
I was talking to my mate who's got a twinpower (he's loaded) and uses it for bloody everything, when I've been with him, weve been bream fishing in the swan with it, squidding at Cockburn sound with it, tailor fishing at rotto with it and even beach fishing at night with it, all with 4lb line!
Id got 8lb personaly more all round line so you can do all of those things and have a chance of a bigger fish if it comes along. Hope to see some nice catchs soon.
