Nice Steve, looks very fishy. Are you back on the water or is it and old shot? Going to take at least 2 weeks to get my compressor for my outboard down here.

How do these units show flat broken ground? Seams no one uses bottom lock on them.

I've been using A scope and bottom lock most of the time Brendan but turned the bottom lock off while we were sounding around in the shallows for our cray caves. The unit presents it's bottom lock differently to a Furuno but it still seems ok. i'm more worried about getting my transducer right so once I'm happy I'll try for a few more pics. You're always welcome out if you come up to Perth.

Jamie, I have spoken to Tim

Sat, 2010-10-23 09:07

Jamie, I have spoken to Tim and hopefully we have made a difference to his settings, however it did take a bit of messing around to get my unit reading well.
Brendan, I am no where near to being back on the water as yet, I actually have to ring my mechanic this morning and see how he wants to tackle the issue. I'm hoping I wont miss the samson fish as I have promised some fishwreckers a ride and would feel really bad if I couldn't take them out.
Poddy, If it was able to be dived I'm sure it would be very impressive, it seems to be a reliable area for dhufish and other goodies at the moment, but in saying that, it is a fair way offshore. We only found it maybe 2 trips ago, but it stretches for about half a km, very fishy place!!

looks the goods steve.

is this near your old market or was this the one when you went further?

i am still using the symbols on mine, they come on top of the coulour, its a visual thing for me.

mine looks the same as yours but i use the blue background.

seaquest, i use the zoom only, i dont like the b/lock or the attt bar.

cheers ron

Ron, this spot is about 15km

Ron, this spot is about 15km north, seems reasonably "untouched" if there is such a thing in the metro area. We have not seen much traffic near it so far.

thanks for your help with the settings on my hds10 just wondering do you use sea anchor , i find it time consuming when i want to go over same ground ,  at what speed can you read the bottom say in 45m. of water , and is it in deep water mode , or do you change to general purpose

G'day Frank, welcome aboard,

Thu, 2010-10-28 16:55

G'day Frank, welcome aboard, hope the settings have made a difference, seems to be a few struggling with HDS settings. They seem to be quite sensitive to any change, probably took me half a day to get mine working well, and that was with a good understanding already of Lowrance units.
I will almost always use a sea anchor except for those rare times when the wind has dropped to nothing and drift is very slow. We have had a few occasions this year were we haven't used one all day.
My unit is set to deep water mode and I never alter that, and I can sound quite effectively at full throttle, approx. 75km/h.
Steve.
