Last Morwhong
Submitted by Dreamweaver on Wed, 2007-12-05 09:09
Well, I might as well post the last Blue Morwhong shot - at the risk of overdosing everyone .
Oh, and as you've probably worked out - it's the pic my avatar is derived from.
As you can see, this one's still in the water and was on the end of the Mrs's line. I don't know what was harder - getting the flitey blighter in frame, or maintaining composure under a volumous audible barrage of life threatening promises if it got off whilst composing the shot!

Thanks Rod
Thanks Rod
I've found Blue Morwhong (Southern Queenies) are reasonably good to eat, providing you do all the right things:
1) Minimise stress of the fish - least handling with wet hands and down on a wet surface.
2) Icky Gimmi them.
3) Bleed them well - huge difference if you don't.
4) Saltwater Ice slurry
We tend to foil bake them whole, with the usual lemon/lime slices, appropriate herbs. Their rib cage structure makes them not the easiest fish to fillet without loosing good flesh.

Distribution
Rod everything I've read on the Southern Blue Morwhong suggests that distribution extends from the western half of South Australia, up to Lancelin in WA, with a few speciments having been caught in Victoria - not to be confused with the 'Grey Morwhong' apparently more prevelant in that state, NSW and extending down to Tassy.

They are in shallower
Rod, I've caught them 45m once past 'the paddock' behind the Five. Not as common down here, if around, they're a pretty easy fish to bite, so perhaps the pressure of so many boats has culled the ones in closer up around Perth.
