Only way I'll get a cover.

Sun, 2006-05-14 11:57

Photoshop is the only way I'll ever get my ugly mug on a front cover. Hey Adam, maybe we should get the winner of each monthly photo comp and mock up a monthly mag cover for them. Happy to play around with it for you.

Cheers

You are right - Make it $20.50 (value for money Kasey.)

Sun, 2006-05-14 13:19

We'll even give you your own section.

"Kasey's 50 Kilo Club."

You have to go and get some 50 kilo fish to post however. Should be no drama's for you Jigging Junkies.

Flywest's cover tips

Sun, 2006-05-14 13:33

Here is a quote from Flywest:

"When composing the verticle "cover shot", allow room down one side (Usually the left hand border) for a list of contents, and sky room across the top for the magazines masthead!

Then - you will be able to command cover shot prices for publishable shots of whats a great fish and a very good photo."

I' have follwed your advice and resized a few photo's to see how they would look. I have a number of them now that fit the bill from a size and placement perspective but too much cropping reduces the pixel count and I have lost some of the sharpness from the original pics. Is there any way to overcome this? I used Corel Photo House 3 to do the changes.

Buy Gum

Sun, 2006-05-14 19:50

Buy Gum, I think he's got it!

The only way to preserve pixel count is to re-save your original pic as a new name (so you don't corrupt the original) then crop it and add the mastehead etc before you resize it small enough to post!

You could have added:-

Terry F secret PC tips "taming rabid trout"! ;o)

Interesting interesting... Think I might have to point you in the direction of a few font sites Andy. :) The front cover of the inaugural magazine as well...... think you might have a few people to contend with for that title. :))))) I certainly do like the idea of doing the monthly winner up in a magazine style format thou. Plenty of photos that could easily be worthy of a magazine.

Great Idea

I think it's a great idea Andy even though I'm afraid I wouldn't make that cover either.

Nice work Andy

Very nice mate.

Got me thinking though that instead of a "mock-up" cover page we could pool all the winners photos and make up a Fishwrecked calender. Should be pretty easy to produce and would be pretty cool whacked up on the back the back of the dunny door!!

Once again just a thought

Who's going to wear the bikini Gully?

Seriously great idea, but its up to Ads, his site and I dare say it costs a few bob to print something like that on a small run.

I'm happy to dabble with it if you want, but printing could be very expensive unless you get someone to foot the bill.

Ads why don;t you send me a link to where you got your fishwrecked font from and I will mock one up for you.

Cheers

Now that has possibilities!

I vote we photograph a few chicky babes in Bikini's with big fish!
Hang on a minute - I think Nafta already do this?
There goes my dream job!
Only one problem - I can't remember the last time I saw either a large fish or a chicky babe in bikini's within 1000 miles of a fat ugly bugga like me! ;o)
Hmm - just a small hurdle to overcome - surely!
Better keep workin on this idea guys!

Cheers!

Nafta are the kings

Tue, 2006-06-13 18:53

I am sure that NAFTA are the kings of this , why else would you pay 20+ of your hard earned for a fishing mag.
Big fat ugly buggas make good pimps / bodyguards , the girls feel safe around you as opposed to just getting raging wide ons around good looking blokes like meself and having to toy between their fear and greed !!!!!
Always a job for you Fly -- maybe on the cam as well.
