When it came up it was dark blue with yellow spots and squiggles on it's face.

Thats a small maori sea perch member of the lutjanid family.. see heaps whilst diving and have caught a few on line.. good looking fish fresh outta the water but i dunno wat they taste like... where did u catch that one???

I would say sweetlips, tasted pretty good and I would keep one again.
