Tie downs

Hey guys. Just wondering what people are using for tie downs to secure the boat when travelling. So far struggling to find transom straps that have a high enough load rating, and the ones that go across the whole boat that have a high enough rating have a massive ratchet which is hard to ensure doesn't bash into boat.

looking hopefully for something secure, and easy to apply that won't damage the boat.

cheers!

To prevent contact between

To prevent contact between the ratchet and / or the strap and the side of the boat I use to attach a cork hand sanding block to the strap to act as a packer. It worked well.

I tend to use the normal tie

I tend to use the normal tie down ratchet but put the ratchet closer to the beam of the trailer to prevent it from hitting the boat. For the straps I just wrap a bit of old towel or rags around it. Never had a problem with damage to the boat

I just got a pair of Transom

Mon, 2024-12-30 10:20

I just got a pair of Transom straps from Just Straps. 50mm wide tape, 304g stainless ratchet and hooks.

A bit more expensive than the BCF jobbies but preferred the stainless (even though it isnt 316).

The hook is intergrated into the ratchet so they have a shorter profile and dont impact the hull, which was my issue.

 These look good. How hard

These look good. How hard were they to install? Donuounhave to drill

into the trailer?
my biggest issue is weight, given boat with fuel etc would be prob around 2.5t, most transom

straps only have lashing capacity of about 400kg.

Yep drill and bolt on

My boat and trailer were built and licensed by a reputable builder in Armadale April 24 so I'd assume it's all compliant with regulations. It weighs 2t and has a boat catch, winch strap and a turnbuckle up the bow and a boat buckle each side of transom.

im not sure of the regs but your not lifting the boat with the straps only lashing it to prevent it bouncing around or skidding of the trailer.I work on road trains and even a log truck with 60t of logs on only requires 8 x 2000kg ratchet straps spread over the load and the heavy inspectors check them all the time and ok

 That's Good to know! Might

That's Good to know! Might look at getting some of these on. Then throw one around the boat for the longer trips to be sure.
