Safety Bay Salmon
Yeah I know, not more friggin' Salmon. But this was a bucket list kind of thing for me.
So I was layin' there half awake in bed this morning when my wife says to me, "what's all that movement in the water down by the boat ramp?"
"I'm not sure - pass the bino's will ya hun?"
Like a sniper, I aimed the binoculars down at the big patch of boiling water just off shore to see a mess of fins and tails breaking the surface.
Phark me. That's a school of Salmon!!!!
Now, I've caught 'em in Dunsborough and Whitehills and Point Peron and Walpole and just about anywhere else a Salmon might be found.
But I've been waiting nine years to catch one on my home ground. NINE years.
Time to get the A into G.
My mind was racing. I only had maybe a couple of minutes to get some gear together and get on the beach before the school moved on.
I knew there was a rod in the rack with a busted up Halco Laser Pro on it but I might need some casting distance if I spook 'em, so I grabbed the big silver Twisty that was sitting in the gunnel of the boat on the way out the door.
So in the record time of about two minutes, I had me boardy's on, my trusty Silstar Power Tip in hand and I'm standing in knee deep water with no wind and a school of Salmon going off about ten metres away.
Ended up landing maybe six or seven and lost just as many in two twenty minute sessions. Now I know that catching a Salmon at the moment ain't rocket science but to say I was STOKED to catch my first Safety Bay Salmon is an understatement!

Great start to the day
It just doesn't get any better than that to start your day off. Looks like he was released in good condition as well.

After seeing all the news of
After seeing all the news of Cockburn Sound going off last week me and my boy went from Palm Beach, checked out around the grain terminal and just about every bay, jetty, beach and rock wall along the coast nearly up to Woodman's Point, then across to the middle of the sound and up the guts back to the causeway and even took a peek out around Point Peron and the Southern tip of Garden Island and didn't even see even the scale of Salmon.
Then last night Dansyy post's http://fishwrecked.com/forum/salmon-everywhere with Salmon going off over there again so I guess they're there, when they're there.
Good luck tomorrow - I'm still buzzin'.

Went out on Wednesday and
Went out on Wednesday and they were hit and miss, and then it was all on for an hour or so, and Friday, same places for nothing. It wasn't until 5 hours later and a loop around GI that a mate messaged me and said they were going off in the fishing boat harbour.

Nothing like ticking off an angling goal, especially one that takes such a long time to come to fruition - good stuff there and nice vid too

Well done, they would have
Well done, they would have stood out a bit more than a school of mullet.
Dont know if it helps reddog but bit of a trick with the few days i fished at the grain terminal was that you had to look for the stirred up sand and sound around not really surface action. Bird watching always helps. Gonna give it a crack tommorow to see if im full of crap.
