Fished out of the runabout version of the same hull. They are a good hull and solidly built. At a guess the weight with an outboard and fuel you would be looking at around the 1.6t mark. Beam around the 2.3 mark. They go quite well with a 115.

Wow, 1.6t would that include the trailer? Not too sure how the old Toyota Aurion would go traction wise towing it back up the boat ramp....

Sure are a fair lump of a boat to be towing up a slippery ramp with a front wheel drive.

a penguin 17'sprite aluminium. ive had it for a year now but not used it much as there where a few hidden supprises from the previous owner. there sorted out now and ready to go. i bought it as it is a solid boat and thought good value for money it handles well in descent swell and has good deck space for its size.

I dive out of CC convert regularly and a friend has just bought another runabout version to convert to CC. Pretty good hulls that will handle pretty much anything the westcoast will throw at them. Of course they are getting on a bit now so I guess check for soft spots in floors and transom. The CC has 225 opti and the one getting rebuilt will have a 140 suzi, will be interesting to see the difference in the way the hulls behave. The CC is awesome on fuel as it is generally only running at half revs but when its flat you don't waste much time travelling!

 bloody good sea boat i have just repowered it with a 230 hp mercruiser cruises on 35 knots top speed of 47knots since i have put the new motor in it rides alot better due to more weight in the ass! mine weighs around 1.6 including an ali trailer and a full tank of fuel (120ltres) these boats were built in w.a and built very strong! just check the floor as ive seen a few that have had the seats drilled into the floor but not correctly sealed so the water gets into the deck and lifts the floor! not sure of the beam or deadrise but they certainly handle the water well! 

Wow 230hp on an 18ft Penguin! What is the max hp for these boats?

I would love to put a 140hp Suzi on one if I had the dollars. Being an older boat what are the transoms like? are they susceptable to wood rot?

we had to cut the transom hole a bit bigger the wood was all good in my hull, i dont no the max horsepower! it was either 140hp or 230 when buying the mercruisers with efi so i opted for the 230 it was all given the go ahead by a good mechanic so as long as you drive to the conditions the extra horsepower wont do you too much harm! if you want to take a look just send me a pm
