New Series of Boat Maintenance Threads!
OK Guys,
I am about to post over comming days a series of new threads about boat and outboard maintenance!
I happen to have had to do in the last few days the 500 hours services on my pair of Honda 115 Hp 4 stroke Outboards, so I figured - since I have a digital camera thing on my new mobile phone, that I might try and put together enough "how to" photo's to write a thread for anyone else to be able to do their own minor servicing tasks on their outboards if they have a mind to!
I have to state at the outset that I am NOT a qualified outboard mechanic! I do hold a marine engineering qualification obtained when I did my Skippers ticket so know a little bit about such things - but I have NOT done a 4 year apprenticeship to become a practising OB Mechanic!
So - anyone who knows MORE than me - please feel free to chip in and and suggest better, easier ways to do things, or correct me if you consider I've given 'bad or potentially misleading' advice!
The idea is that these threads can be 'edited"!
I.e. That - we can add in steps for more clarity or delete something thats potentially misleading if necessary!
I have a simple Prop maintenance thread to start with!
Lets see how it goes eh?
Cheers!

Thanks bruiser!
I hope others get some benefit from them in the future!
Probably most have no idea how much work goes into these things what with actually doing the service, as well as photographing each step along the way.
Then I email from my mobile phone all the photo's to myself to get them on the computer, then delete all the pics from mobile phone - then upload all the picts to the website, then compose the thread one post at a a time!
I think today I've dropped two lower units and replaced two impellers, changed 8 spark plugs, two fuel filters, two water separating filters and taken something like 90 photo's all of which I've emailed to my computer for tomorrows effort!
This first thread took some 2 or 3 hours at the keyboard! (And it's already 1.17 am in the morning!)
I will hopefully get better (quicker) at this!
I got interuppted (business meetings) a couple times today and missed a couple important photos of pulling the actual water pumps apart to install the new impellers!.
Havent figured yet how to get around that without dropping a lower unit again just for 2 or 3 pics! (Don't really feel like doing that)!
I will manage somehow!
I also would like to start a new thread on vessel security measures boaters can take to protect their boats from theft!
Lots to write about! I need a clone of me!;o)
Cheers!

Hahahah - Awesome Flywest
I appreciate your contributions very much Flywest and I hope everyone who reads your threads and photo's gets something out of them!
I look foward to reading the future steps. I know how time consuming getting everything into place and linked properly with this web setup, trust me, I know! Thanks again. I'm sure it will come in handy for you in the future as well.

Excellent thread
Top stuff Flywest,
Although that's a scary thought with the cloning concept.
Cheers

Yeah Andy!
I hear you about the cloning bit - my luck I'd get tits like Dolly the sheep!
Hey Adam,
I think the forums may need some "emoticons" (expressions of mood of poster) for readers top be able ot imterpret the written word in the manner in which the composer intended!
The best "emoticons" i have seen are used at www.floridasportsman.com on their forums (if you register & log into the forums you will see what I mean!)
Is there some way you can give us a menu selection of emoticons to post with so we can let readers know whether we are rolling our eyes, smiling winking laughing etc etc?
This often goes a long way toward making the mooderatpors job easier if people aren't being "upset" because they just interpreted the posters intention wrongly thru the use of the written word!
Hope this suggestion is of some help! ;o)
Cheers!

Suggestion
Hey Flywest,
We used to have emotions built into the site but found it was putting a lot of the format out of whack. I will have a chat to Sam and see how much work is involved in getting them back. I'll let you know how it goes.
