New fuel tank

After gaining more experience on the water I have noticed I am starting to cover more deeper ground which has raised the issue of fuel tank capacity. I decided to remove the existing 100L tank and have a bigger tank made. This will increase tank capacity to 180 odd Litres. I have been quoted $1200.00 for the tank to be made from 4mm alloy, fully baffled with fuel pickup tube and large inspection cover. Im also going to supply a fuel sock to go on the end of the pickup line. All installed. I should add that the tank is not just a square or rectangular shape, it has to follow the shape of the hull to maximise room available. Does this sound like a reasonable price??

Cheers

Be careful

Seems like a fair price to me Tez. Just be carefull they dont weaken the framework when they cut it to fit the new tank. Be very careful, it can wreck your boat.

I'm sure I'll catch a biggy oneday.

Custom sure hurts. I was looking at pricing for polyethylene petrol tanks for a 4WD just before, and the tank itself is just  $185 for 125l, but then you have to have the space for it.

Bit pricey i would say about half that

Not hard to follow the shape of the hull, get a few quotes before you do anything
Get them to put a doulbler plate on the top at the right location with a cut out and holes tapped into it as well for a fuel gauge sender unit, buy the sender unit first and give them the gasket for the cut out.
I priced a 200 ltr one on my last boat 18 mths ago and price was $400
Be careful with a fuel sock as if you get anything in your tank can smother the sock and loss of fuel pick up,put a filter element in fuel line instead alot better and safer.
If you need a fuel gauge i have a spare one in the shed you can have.

seems a bit rich mate. A friend of mine is doing the same thing at the moment. His cost 500 fully baffeled and certified with all of the fittings, his is 130L. Had it made by the poeple that built my boat

New quote

On Brads recommendation I rang Peter from Velosity marine. After discusing what I was wanting done he gave me a rough quote between $600-$700. This price includes a fuel sender unit, 4mm alloy, baffled etc etc. The misus and I are taking the boat to him on Saturday. Might get him to make up some marlin boards as well. Thanks heaps for the advise. I will post some pics of the old girl when its finished.

Cheers fellas
