NEW FIN NOR AND QANTUM RANGE OF REELS
I went down to see the guys at Compleat Angling in Rockingham (sorry sponsors but i have been going there for years) to look at the new range of Quantum and Fin Nor reels they have just brought in.
Very impressed with the quality with features you would expect in a lot more expensive reel. I am like a lot of guys on this forum who for various reasons cannot afford or justify buying the top of the range okumas, daiwas, shimano's etc.
I walked out with a new (offshore)OS7500 Fin Nor Reel and a matching Penn Steel Tip 2 boat rod and line for under $400. Can't post a pick cos i'm still trying to work out how to do it. For those of you in the Rockingham area who are budget minded the new range is worth a look.

the off-shore range
is very highly regarded, even as a cheap jigging reel for sambos.
Qantam is still a bit of an unknown quantity here in Australia, but in America they are pretty well regarded.

They have just got them in
They have just got them in at Totally Wild (my local shop) and Steve there seems to think they are a good thing. Haven't got the tolerances of a swiss watch but very strong apparently(stainlees gears). I believe they got some good feed back at the recent tackle show in Qld. I'm gonna have look at em soon.

I've been using the Fin-Nor
I've been using the Fin-Nor Offshore 9500 for just over a year now, and find they are more than adequate for what I use them for. Off the rocks chasing snapper and sharks, plus I use them out in the boat for all sorts of stuff as well. Haven't tried jigging for sambo's with them but I reckon they would handle the job okay. A great reel for the price and I'm happy with mine.

Hi JD,
took the fin nor out for its first day yesterday. Fishing at the small boat wharf on Garden Island. Its hooked onto a Penn Rod. First cast without much effort and the line peeled off.....great casting reel. Then the real test...hooked into a stigray of about 4-6kgs.........no effort at all dragging the fish in and the finny wasn't even straining......i am impressed. I can't wait for some decent weather so i can get it out on the boat. Honestly for the money they are a well built and solid reel...well worth the spend!
