Mackerel Islands

Too early for a trip report as we're only 3 days into our week here. Full report will come once I get home.
Unfortunately it has been blowing like a bitch up here! Chased sailfish on Sunday and went 5-4-2 which sounds bad but only 2 fish were seriously hooked. The others took baits/lure as a switch when we already had a fish hooked.
Mooched around the island yesterday and caught a few fish. Chased sails again today but no dice. Will do the same tomorrow in good weather and then do some other stuff later in the week.
We've caught fish on all of the Mackdog gear and I'm very impressed with Eugene's stuff so check them out!
Time to finish my whisky and hope for a calmer day!
Cheers!

Not a simpleton at all Paul.
Not a simpleton at all Paul. It means raised 5 sails, hooked 4 and released 2. Not great release numbers but as I said only 2 were properly hooked on circle hooks and we tried to convert others that were around the boat. If you get a good hookup with a circle it's staying there until you take it out!

Making it happen
Making it happen Dave, this time of the year is almost always blowy up there but if you can score the weather, the fishing is red hot.

Good luck
Westerlies have been howling 20+ for weeks, maybe 1 day a week under 10 currently. :(

Today was better after a windy start to the day. Most people got good fish with Rankins featuring heavily. Nice to see a lot of happy crew.
As I sit here the wind is cranking but maybe we'll get a decent window tomorrow.

Mate I wish I was! When your day starts out with a minimum of 15 knots sou'wester fishing is tough! All boats are going out but it is bloody hard work. We were chasing sailfish in 70m late today and some bright spark decided we should try the bottom! Last day tomorrow so we're going hard!
