Guys,

For those of you concerned with possible petrol theft from your boat, you may want to have a look here. Looks really good and pretty easy installation !

Paul G....boat lock

Sun, 2008-07-06 16:49

Hi Paul

Only had a chance to have a quick look at the website. Apparently they are only available in USA. A good opportunity for an Oz distributer. I can't authoratively answer the question (will it fit most boats), but most boats, I would think are pretty standard, unless the yanks have a different thread I suppose. To answer the last question, one would need to take the cap off an Ozz boat and see if it fits something like a Trophy or Grady White and vice versa.

fuel fillers

Sun, 2008-07-06 17:12

there are so many different styles of bases available that boat manufactures fit on there boats, there would be a small percentage that cap would fit. Alot of the boats i see have pop top style caps or bases that would not suit that style of cap. I will have a look tomorow in our books to see if there is a complete lockable fuel filler available localy, im sure there is

How do you know (a small percentage that would fit), it is a screw in?

That would be helpfull, and I'm sure appreciated by many!

Nice find

Sun, 2008-07-06 19:41

Done well Dreamweaver. Nice find thanks for sharing that with us. I might look into obtaining one. I have a dealer in the USA who can do some home work on them. I will get him to chase some info. For those people who are interested we could do a group buy. One would be pretty cheesed to find the tank had been drained by petrol theiving B*^tards.

Cheers

Not my find Tez

Mon, 2008-07-07 07:32

Not my find Tez - another's on another forum - but happy to share with the guys in here. Wink. As you've seen from Andy's post, he's looking into whether they (or alternatives) are available locally. But, notwithstanding that Tez, of you can get these to Oz, I think a lot of people would be interested. Just have to make sure they fit.

I think the lock internals would cop alot of corrosion

Mon, 2008-07-07 10:45

would be another thing to consider as they cant have any drain or you would get water in the fuel, would'nt wanna be on your way out fishing and cant get any fuel in ya boat, three hours later when you finaly get it off.
Another idea is to put some stainless mesh in your filler hose down near the tank cant get a hose past it that way.
But stopping these thiefs is nearly impossible i wont bother metioning the other ways they get past these deterents.

Sorry Dij, you've lost me mate

I might be missing something, but how would these lockable caps be any different drain wise than a std screw in cap?

As for 'getting it off' (if you'll pardon the expression!) - you only unlock the central cyclinder as far as I can tell.

I guess the only way of

Mon, 2008-07-07 11:04

I guess the only way of alleviating that concern would be to talk to USA baoties that have them. I visit a USA site from time to time. I'll post up a question there and se what response I get.

Sorry Colin

Mon, 2008-07-07 12:34

These caps will be subject to all elements even when just sitting there unless under cover.
Most locks drain water out the bottom obviously these cant and the water will be left sitting in the lock, which would be a lot of maitenance.
May not be a problem. JMO!

Yup cheers mate! It's a good point you raised! I'm waiting feedback on that USA fishing forum. As you say, may not be a problem, but if it is, then best to know about it.

But that they are made of SS

Mon, 2008-07-07 13:34

But that they are made of SS and brass would suggest perhaps that they are accomodating for salt. I think those that respond (if any use them) will indicate whether the vessell is used on saltwater.

petrol thieves

before long it might be smart to get removable primer bulb
conections and remove them when not in use,I know that if cut my fuel line near the motor I can pump the primer bulb a few times and the boat will self syphon

Advice...

Tue, 2008-07-08 13:43

I've been advised by some one that's been advisid by the company in the USA that they will be available in Australia in the not too distant future.

My advice is to stay tuned, for more advice, once I've been advised by the person who's receiving the advice, once they've been advised.
