How to post on fishwrecked.
I've noticed lately that some people aren't putting much effort into creating their forum topics. It doesn't take much to add a few extra letters instead of the text talk and also, a few sentence/paragraph breaks don't go astray either. Repeat offenders will have their forum topics deleted as if you're not going to take the time and effort to do things right, then I don't want members to waste their time trying to decipher it. Sure a few guys do have problems with spelling and I won't be too harsh, just take some effort to post and I'm sure people will make some more effort with their responses.
Second note: Before you comment on a random image or an old post, PLEASE CHECK THE DATE. There is tonnes of old content on here and a lot of members have moved on and won't be answering your questions. If you recognise the user name and know they are still about, then please feel free to say something. But multiple posting on old stuff that likely won't get an answer is frustrating as it flushes a lot of good new content too quickly through the latest content menu.
Third note: I've been noticing that heaps and heaps of new members are asking the same questions that have already been recently posted; PLEASE USE THE SEARCH OPTION FIRST (left column). This site has tonnes of old content that is mighty valuable and more times than not you will find what you want without having to start the same topic over and over again week after week. We also discussed a while back about filling in the result of any question you asked, so that people who do find your thread as a result of a search, can see the outcome of the information you received. Please try and keep your questions as fishing related as possible.
Fourth: If you have an issue with someone, please come to me first before flaming them in a thread. I will try to mediate or find a win-win solution for both parties. With so many members and so many differing opinions, conflict is inevitable in this environment, but it would be great if you ended things amicably by agreeing to disagree, rather than going on and calling each other poo poo heads and so on and so forth. We try to let debate and discussion go as far as possible without having to step in, but it would be great if you could use your own discretion when entering into a conversation. Worst case scenario, speak to me or one of the moderators and we will get it worked out.
Anyway, if you have any questions, then please let me know. I am trying to improve the standard of content to help your browsing comfort, but please be understanding as it is a rather long and time consuming task at times.
One last thing, the site will likely be down this FRIDAY (5/3/10) as we move servers. The site will display a drupal sign, but don't worry, we will be back as soon as possible.
Cheers,
Adam

type your longer posts onto a word document, use the spell checker then cut and paste your post onto fishwrecked.
I don't think Adam is that concerned with the odd spelling mistake here and there, its when you younger guys (and gals) use shortened text writing that looks like they have grabbed a handful of alphabet soup and thrown it at the page.

I might add that spaces in
I might add that spaces in sentences don't cost extra on the internet, its not like paying for print ads.
By that I mean when you use a comma, you put a space in after it. Incidentally, the convention on the use of punctuation, is that we put it in directly after the word, and then the space follows it, just like this.
Not ,like ,this?

google toolbar
its been a while since I used it but I belive the google toolbar has spell checker features included so installing that would resolve the issue of spelling but are some spelling errors really so bad ? ;) afterall this aint www.grammar.com

i think adam just means
i think adam just means that, just putting a lil more effort woulnt hurt anyone, so to at least go over obvious errors would be a nice courtesy. I use my phone and it wont spellcheck when im on the net, only for sms. Also i guess abbreviations eg; msn, gamer, online chat type spelling wouldnt help those that aren't familiar with it.
I can see and understand how messaging like that would be difficult for some to put together.
"I cn c n undrstnd hw msgin lyk dat wuld b difficult 4 sum 2 put 2getha."
?I can seeing? Understand how m.s.g'ing lick that would be difficult for some to put together?
You can figure it out, but frustrating for some and slows things down alot when decifering.
i do it with sms sometimes to shorten sentances so it doesnt cost so much in texts because spelling correctly costs more because it doesnt take much at all for it to rollover into another text message.
But that doesnt apply with doing it here, just a lil more effort.
I guess stuff like; lol, IMO, FYI, wtf, omg is pretty known so i dunno, maybe more acceptable.
Otherwise we'd get too much of the kkz, zomg, bbq, brb, rofl, stfu, gtfo and heaps more.
I guess if you didnt know what it means then if one was to use whatever word they think makes sense, it wouldnt really make sense in the end or might actually assume something one doesnt mean.

Good comments
Adam, I believe your comments were well said and get your point across without too much vitriol.
Unfortunately being an internet forum about fishing you encounter people from all walks of life from young Fisherboy up to some elderly gentleman that seem to have a flatulence issue.
Those same people have computer skill levels that would also vary wildly from people spending all day in front of a flat screen to someone like my dear wife who was recently asked by her I.T. help desk to "Right click". Her response "I can't see right click on the keyboard!"
Being new to this forum (but not forums in general) I don't think there is too much abuse or similar on this site but as i said, I am new to it.
Overall I think it is one of the most helpful sites I've been on.
Hey Scotto, about that tailor rig!??

test
Poo poo head, just a test to see how many would read that far through it. As Huggy said, its just more about the effort...
Constant monitoring ensures it stays civil, just reminding people to do so and to put that little bit extra in to continue its high standards.

I agree Adam. I've been guilty of asking a question before searching first.
I've also been guilty of upsetting a few people on this site. I apologise to anyone I have upset in the past and at the end of the day my aim is to get along with all members because we all have a common interest, and obviously that is fishing.
Now! let's get out there and catch some great fish this weekend!

and you will notice that you have your pm's deactivated. You should be able to reactivate them by ticking the right box.

Yep - Redfin 4 Life
A classic example of what to try and avoid.
Nothing wrong with commenting on the odd old photo as you have done, but when you do heaps in a row like you did just then it flushes all the current topics off the recent content pages. Which is what Adam is getting at in this post.
Just try to be a little more selective in future so we don;t get a big wave of really old posts coming back up to the top..
Cheers

Apple Macs
Any ideas on how to put long replies into paragraphs when using a Mac?? I do every time, but when I send the post it comes through with no spaces whatsoever, my knowledge of computers is extremely basic so any replies would have to be spelt out to me as though you are talking to a 3 year old!!

I am using an Apple Mac as well
and try as I might, you really cant format your post like you would on a PC. Return doesn't make any difference, however Im in Steve's boat, not the most tech savy person around.

I can build almost anything, but when it comes to computers I am completely lost. At risk of sounding like a absolute nob what is a "shift-return???" Apologies in advance!

You just hold down shift and return at the same time.
On a pc you get a slightly different version of the <CR>.

Steve Do you have any text programmes on your Mac
There maybe something called Simple Text or something similar. If so, just type in your comment or post in that area and that should allow you put in things like paragraph breaks. Once you have written your post, or comment, then you just have to cut and paste from the text programme and place it on Fishwrecked. (Sorry mate, I hope I haven't confused you - it so much easier when you can just show someone. I have used Macs a lot and they are very user friendly when you know what programmes are available).

Sorry Steve It is confusing I wish I was on a Mac now as
it would be easier for me to find what you need. Do you know where the search function is on your Mac. If so, type in text and it should identify if you have any Text programmes.

Happens when the 'rich-text' is enabled, so it's now switched off all the time.
Would be nice if there is a solution so I can use these again
edit ... I'll be .... looks like the new motherboard installed last week has sorted that out as well ... couldn't even get a space after the fullstops....was a complete pain.TWiZTED

Rich text
Rich text gives you either a plain comment box when disabled, or gives you the options to add smileys, , bold, bullet points or add images from other sources via the little tree when enabled. Its just under your comment box before you click Post Comment.
