Hamelin Bayimages and rays video

Just got back from a nice little sting down hamelin bay. Went mainly to get more stock images to sell but couldnt resist baitcasting some mulies for salmon. Unfortunatly only the pros got a few. I had the go pro 3 black on me and i walked down the beach to get away from the rays but they followed. Made for some good footage. Dont worry, i didnt hook one) gave fishing away when they rolled up. Did get in trouble from the ranger for patteng them lol. Got warned how dangerous they are. Like i didnt already know. Anyway here is some images and the video.. Enjoy....

Have you got your new camera yet.....if so, what is it and what lenses have you got for it?

What shutter speed did you use for the night time camp fire shot??

Hey Rusty :)

Good question. Sold my 50d and borrowd a few buks of the mrs and bought a mint 5d II

Only problem now is i dont have lenses :(

Wont be able to afford the lens i want for some time 6 months max :(

I want the 16-35 f2.8. Its over $1700

In regards to that camp fire image. I set the cammera up on the tripod. Went for a 30 second exposure iso 100 f2.8 and told the Lisa to stay as still as possible for the 30sec.

I clicked the shutter and walked around with the 580ex off the camera and light up the trees around.

Camera

Hi marc

I've not used any of Canon's DSLRs as I went the Nikon route.....currently have a Nikon D5100.

The 5d II is a nice looking full frame camera...similar to Nikon's D600/D800. Been looking at going full frame (FX) but they aren't cheap...D800 body is $2600 and his little brother, the D600 (body) is $1800. The Nikon 24 -70mm f2.8 lens is $1750.

The funny thing is, Nikon's top of the range DX body, the D7100 has all the big features of the D800 but with an improved DX (1.3x crop) sensor. At $1200, the D7100 could be the way to go....all my current DX lenses will fit ok, and keeping the D5100 as a backup/spare body would be a good thing.

As for the camp fire shot, I've never popped the flash on long exposure pics but I'm keen to go try it...thanks for the tip!

Hope you get those lenses soon.

Yep expensive as and i have the 5dii but no lenses for it. Its going to be some time till i can afford the 16-35mm 2.8.

Yeah popping the 580ex Ii off while long exposure ( light painting works a treat. I did it for the shots below. It was pitch black out here at wave rock , no lights at all. came up a treat. 30sec exposure, 100iso, f2.8
