I cant make up my mind on which boat will make a better fishing boat. glass being a super stable smooth ride but more care needed to maintain.Ali being a rough noisy ride but dosent chip. iam looking at buying a northshore 580 or haines huter vs rasorline olympian super cab , genesis or goldstar. does anyone own one of these boats or another boat which they could recomend and tell me the pros and cons

Hey Jonno
My Dad owns the Northshore 650 and the ride is very good, probably the best I've been on, but I haven't been on many other boats. With regards to the boat Paul builds them very well in my opinion, we have been out in some rough weather and it handles it easily and rides very smooth.
As for maintenance, it's like with anything if you look after it, it should last. Having said that it does have a few scratches here and there which probably wouldn't occur with an ally. But if you do do any serious damage Like a big scratch they can be repaired as we have had done.
If you have any questions let me know

if your looking at towing it
if your looking at towing it great distances then ali would be the go but if not maybe a glassy might be better just for the ride ..... in saying that i have a westerberg ali and i love it

Down south I guess you could
Down south I guess you could get away with a glass boat fine... there's no debating that they're a great ride. Up north I reckon ali boats are way more versatile.

Glass or Ali?
Hey Johnno,
How much do you want to cough up for this new toy? And what's the main use for it going to be?
Cheers,
T.

I will never go back to an
I will never go back to an ali.
I will go out in any weather and drive hard in my glass but an ali would break my back and loosen the fillings from my teeth.
My boat now is a 650 haines signature but im thinking of an upgrade to a similar size cat. Now thats a better ride again and lots of space.

Try crunching your beloved
Try crunching your beloved glass boat over a low tide rock bar or sand bar NOHA
Not that you'd take a boat of that size any where near the creeks but up here just launching and retreiving is made a lot more stress free with an ali boat. Last time we came in at Dampier alot of the glass guys were hanging back for the tide to come in, didn't want to scratch it on the sand
I'd never get a glass boat for up here, but in perth, a different story.

Totally depended on your
Totally depended on your required use. You want to play in the mud I go way offshore.
The worst ride I have ever had in a boat was in a 6.5 meter ali in Karratha. That short wind chop that you get with a persistant 15 knot wind makes for an incredibly harsh ride. 15 km/h was all we could manage whereas in my boat in the same seas i would of cruised at 40+.
It makes for a long ride at trolling speeds when your marks are 50km away.
