Fresh Water on the boat

Chasing some ideas on how to get a freshwater deckwash/shower into my 20ft Southwind. A mate has fitted a Car Cube in his 670 Commodore, but I think I really need upwards of 25L for a 3 to 4 day trip. I hope to use it for washing myself down after a dive, and maybe drinking water too at a pinch. BIAS and Whitworths don't seem to list anything online. Anybody have experience with getting bladders under the seats in the cabin?

been looking also

Mon, 2011-02-14 18:23

I have a pressure deck wash pump on mine and have got a couple of valves so suction can be swapped from seawater to tank.

But still looking for a tank.

Could use a 20 litre on the marlin board but there is space inside the transom next to batteries if I could find something to go in!

5 litres for a shower should be plenty if you use that nite'n day shampoo then wash off with fresh.

There are some bladders on ebay etc but you still need to contain them somehow.

hey matedo you have the live

Mon, 2011-02-14 18:44

hey mate

do you have the live wells in the rear corners of your boat?

i do on mine which are use for all sorts,

when i go to rotto for overnighters i fill one rear one with fresh water and reverse my bait tank pump to pump out.

connect the garden hose with one of them mutilpe gun things and presto, on board shower, dishwashing, etc etc

not for drinking, but if worse come to worse i would, gennerally have enough jimmy on the boat for that.

after that night it normally gets emptied and reversed back to a live well if needed, as simple as changing some hoses around and having a bilge pump in the tank for airating as well as pumping fresh water.

(make sense) welcome to look anytime you like if needed.

also the wells make a great esky for the night as well??

Seen a mate put 2 20l water

Mon, 2011-02-14 18:47

Seen a mate put 2 20l water containers with a pump and nozzle in the side pockets of his 5m Side Console. Always got wet so whenever you pulled up it was a quick rinse with fresh for you and your sunnies.

Best feeling to have a fresh wash before you jump in the swag too.

I usually just give myself a rinse with a 1.5l bottle of water though.

yeah I use a EnviroWash 12

Mon, 2011-02-14 18:58

yeah I use a EnviroWash 12 volt Portable Pressure Cleaner (same as  a car cube) - plenty enough for me for rinsing everything off on the way back in and enough to use while filleting at spots without cleaning tables.

If I want more water storage I will just get a bigger container and put the pump and controller onto it - would be fairly easy to do.

I got mine from http://www.shoppersadvantage.com.au/whatsupshop/Product.asp?Action=Detail&CTID=21&SID=120&ID=123994

Thanks for that. I just grabbed one and I will see how it can work. I am sure I will find a use for it somewhere either way.

Just an idea.  Would water

Mon, 2011-02-14 19:00

Just an idea.  Would water pipe work.   You can buy different sizes and there are different types of fittings you can use.  Lot's of people use them on 4x4s.  Not sure where/if you could use one on a boat though (just trying to think where I could fit one in the old man's boat)?  Maybe under the rocket launchers?

 if your thinking of running

Mon, 2011-02-14 20:04

if your thinking of running pipes of water up high, think about the weight that it will add which will cause the boat to roll a bit. better off with the water down low so you dont upset the balance of the boat

Yep, all accounted for. Just thrashing some ideas around. I am having some boxes made for each side to hold a fridge, a cooker and gas bottle, so maybe water will fit in there somewhere too.

We always take a lot of freshwater with us

Mon, 2011-02-14 19:50

for drinking but as far as showers go we just use Peter Gs night and day liquid soap and no need to rinse down with fresh after. You may find it better to rinse of with fresh but i didnt find it uncomfortable at all.You can get it from Unit 1 39 Dellamarta road in wangara call first on 93093481.I dont know if he sells from the door anymore. We use it to wash our hair as well but i think he does a shampoo as well.I run a 80 litre bladder in the 670 commodore and never had an issue with it.You can get them from whitworths the other option is arb and the like stock bladders designed to go in behind car panels so that could be another option. If you are only going to use it from time to time a couple of water jerrys and a hang up camp shower would be the go then you have nothing to go wrong pump wise.

I am going to take a punt and guess the same as yours

It doesnt help that the battery's are on that side as well.If i am alone it is perfect,if i am 2 up it is a pain in the ass 3 up you can move it around a little.I have off set it a bit with spare fuel and the lead box .I am also looking at putting a bigger fuel capacity in so i can adjust it a bit more.Trim tabs will sort it but i would rather balance it out with out them if i can.

Matt the best spot is in the underfloor area on the deck. You could run a hose through the back and come up on the transom somewhere. That would make for no interferance in teh handling at all.

I have a 60l fresh water tank

Tue, 2011-02-15 18:20

I have a 60l fresh water tank under the port side seat of my Leisure Cat, which is part of the seat box. It has a wash down pump attached to it.

I recently I installed a hot water system with a hot cold mixer with a hand shower rose. Its great after a dive or when the family comes out. The hot water system is a 12volt caravan 10l system. I have wired it to the ignition so it will turn on when the engine is started. It heats up quite quick when the engine is running and has enought hot water for a couple of people. I have trial it on a seperate battery but it drains the guts out of it and takes to long to heat up. But with constant power/charging it performs mint and the water will stay hot in the hot water tank.

Tue, 2011-03-01 15:45

I have a 30 liter allie tank, BUT it has developed pin prick holes due to corrosion from the Chlorine in the wtaer etc.

So I'm putting a bladder in it now, water will also taste better that way.

Check the catalouges for water bladders used in caravans, they seem cheaper and better.

cheers
