Dongara, Kalbarri and Denham

Hi Guys,

Taking my twin boys up to Dongara, Kalbarri and Denham in September, would appreciate any advice. I have a 4WD and a 4.75 quinnie, just looking for a bit of advice on where to head to get me started.

Have heard that Kalbarri is dodgy to take the boat out of any advice would be great

Cheers

Camzak

not too sure about dongara, kalbarri river mouth can be pretty hairy, maybe u could launch from port denison, or lucky bay. otherwise there is heaps of spots from nanga, denham, the peron peninsula, and monkey mia.. snapper, squid, yellowfin whiting, sharks, mulloway the list goes on... all in protected bays definitely the pick of the 3 places

kalbarri river mouth is only hard when the swell is up, if unsure just follow another boat out or watch to see how its done. ive heard good things about nobby head??? in dongara. lots of dhuis in shallow around dongara.

Be very careful in that size. My Father lives up there and the swell changes. You might go out in OK weather in come back with the Mouth shut down. As said above if you do venture out watch some boats and see how they do it. They wait for a swell and run between waves.

I have a 5.4 Traily and I would be nervous there.

Lots of nice bream and soapy mullas up the river. Few crab pots might even land you a Muddie.

If you see the boat Master Baiter ask Paul how to do it, say I said to ask.

Hey mate I live in Dongara and fish at least 3 to 4 times a week i know the waters like my own back yard, I only fish with lures around here and we catch bulk Dhus, Baldys, Trout and Pinkys in water shallower than you would think. Hit me a PM for more info.

Have a look at geraldton, boat fishing out of town that time of year is safe and very productive for dhuies, trout and baldies. Beach fishing picks up by that time north and south of town with tailor and mulloway. Pm for more info, happy to show you around a few locations when you are up this way.
I spend a lot of time beach fishing between 9mile and kalbarri both on the beach and out in the boat.

Monkey mia is my recommendation.  but then I'm based because I go there every year.  used to have a 4.2 m stacer that was great until the chop got up a bit.  have a 5 m plate ally runabout now and have a ball.  heading there next week for three weeks.  never been in september.  April is the go for us.  I think september is mulloway time?  someone else may have a better idea.
